looking for C3 around 5k

Would like running car not super concerned with numbers matching. Like the body to be in good shape cash in hand! I know everyone loves cash please pm or email me at silver69@comcast.net I am located in Chicago but will travel. here is my situation Quick story behind this post. I am searching for a car for my 15 year old son for his 16th birthday. I am looking for a well kept Corvette I am an active duty US Marine. His mom left out of the blue and has been gone for last 1 1/2 years. This caused us to fall behind because we went down to 1 income. Due to economic hardships the cars he was promised he can no longer have because the bank took it during 13 bankruptcy. My son grew up around LS1 and LS6 Corvettes and I had promised him one when his birthday came.I have managed to save a little cash over last year and want to buy him a car! I have 5k cash and will travel a little to buy him a nice car. Please let me know if you have something for sale that fits what he would love. thanks all Kerley

It shouldn't be hard to find in your area without travel. I live in Atlanta and get a lot of my parts for restoring from the guys at The Last Detail. They are a Vette parts company sitting in the same complex as Buyavette.net so I'm in their lot several times a week and see a slew of cars there. Attached to that same group in the same building is MC Corvettes who do repairs and service. I did a quick check and saw an 85, here's a link I found on Craigslist for one of theirs:

Catching Airtran to Atlanta from Chicago shouldn't break the bank. Buyavette has been selling Vettes for a long time and always has over a hundred Corvettes in inventory, most all are southern Vettes so no road salt! Give them a call and see what they can do. They have a lot of cars (most likely a little more cost) that carry 100k/5 year warranty also. No, I don't work there or get anything just was over there today getting parts then saw your post.

I would seriously look for a more modern car that your son would like that has air bags and modern safety features as much as a C3 would be really neat for him, a more modern vehicle would be much safer.

I agree with Bob about finding a newer car for your son. These C-3's are in excess of 25 plus years old and are unless restored usually in need of maintenance. If restored will be awful expensive. If your son is looking for something with the LS1 engine Look into the GM F bodies firebird and camaro late 90's should be in your price range. They are great cars that handle great and look great with air bags and anti lock brakes
