I was offered a 1972 Blue Blue Coupe . Complete history, fully documented, 3 owners from new, NCRS mechanical verified with 100% numbers match as coil, carb distributor, radiator, rad support etc. etc. Original engine was rebuilt as per the original transmission. New GM exhaust. As new high quality front carpets replaced. The rest of the interior is very very nice and original with all working gauges, clock and radio. One incredible repaint with perfect chrome. GM door sticker still there, clean underneath with perfect frame, rad support, bird cage. Clean engine bay, base 350 with all the accessories in place, TH 400, P/S,P/B,P/W,tilt/tele, no air. Car has just turned 100K.
What am I supposed to pay for such car or what would be a win to win transaction for the seller and me.
Thanks for all your input

Your help is greatly appreciated SJ. I must admit that I had in mind ( in the left lower back part of it) more of a low 20'S figure than a high 10's one. I went to see the car again today and it is in an incredible condition. The seller, a nice guy I've known for 10 years or so took the 72 in exchange for his 65 Coupe (327/365, side pipes, P/W P/S,P/B, Tele ) on a 24 000$ basis and cash naturally. The car has a Sept 9, 2009 prof. appraisal of 28 000 $ which I think is to high for a base car with a TH400, no matter how nice it is. Now the dilemna. I bought this summer a 1990 Porsche Carrera 4 (awd) coupe with less than 80 000 Miles that he felt for saying straight ahead when he saw the car « I will trade your Porsche for my 72 ». Not beeing an expert as you guys, I would have lean more to this transaction the car being a convertible, a 454 coupe etc. again despite the fact that this is a very very nice car even with original details as center caps and trim rings, antenna mast, wiper arms and blades and so on, but still a base car. I had real nice original 69,71 C3's Coupe and Convertible, so I like 68-72 cars and do not mind the TH400 for once but I do not know if I am doing a good move or not. Just need a bit detailing in the engine compartment. (friggin nice car ..)
Hey SJ, thanks for listening... Feels good to let go and feel free to comment
Hi JAL,
I would think that for the price to go above the low 20s the car would need to a fabulous restoration of a documented original car OR an original car in excellent condition in almost every way, with excellent documentation, that could be a BowTie 5 star car.
Pictures?
Regards,
Alan
Without some very good pictures it is hard to determine an accurate price. It could very well be close to the $28k apprasial that was made. So if you could.... please get some pics of the '72 coupe and post them.

Hi guys,
Many thanks again with the input. As explained this transaction had the purpose to take the 72 as an «even trade» with my 1990 Carrera C4 . I knew that I would have to detail the engine bay and change the pillar posts inside trims and the upper inside window trim that is curved on one end probably by infiltrating water from the windshield that has also to be changed (108K miles). Despite the fact that this is a very nice C3, your comments made me realize that to reach the low 20's , the corvette has to have an extraordinary edge over other comparable ones, specialy being a nicely equipped car but still a base model.
A convertible would have made me lean harder towards that deal but things being what they are, I will sell the Carrera then will look in here to shop first. For those who suggested to put pics in this thread, you were 110% right. This is what I would have done normally. But, in that particular «deal» I did not want to show too much interest in the car since the seller is a wise guy (in a positive maner). Also he lives an hour and a half in the country from my home so to make a second visit to just take pics since the deal was alreday discussed in a sense, did not seem appropriate to me.
You people were great and I do thank you all. I will keep you posted when the Carrera is sold.
You have a nice week. Also, if I may help somebody in here or near Quebec City, my phone number is 418.569.5863

Reason: name
if the car has good metal, that is a major plus.. if it has correct stampings, that is a major plus.. just about anything will cost a couple of grand to get it to the way you want it... having the car nearby means acquisition costs are near zero, that is a major plus.. some guys pay thousands hopping around the world looking at cars, gettting them shipped after purchase... even if you find a comparable one.. will it be cheaper and will it be in canada? you might have to ship any other one you find across the border.. another nightmare...
go for it... unless you require a BB 4-speed, which are much more rare.. especially in good condition in the rust belt..
You are right: rustfree cars, numbers, no or alsmost no travelling expenses, shipping fees, etc. are major factors when looking for the right car. But there are very nice C3 available in a 300 miles radius, so I will go this way when I will be ready and have sold the Carrera. I will go on the forum to look at the ones available.
