Default Comments on this car

Can someone give me an idea what a fair price would be for this car? It's the 72 454 coupe on the site below. I haven't heard back from the dealer yet as to what they're asking.

I'm looking for a 72 coupe, auto, in black, although I know the color wasn't made in this year.

Thanks!

15K seems a little low for that car don't you think??

Since it's a dealer, I would think 35K to 45K.

Nice looking car. Call the salesman and have him give you the VIN# from drivers window pillar and then the numbers stamped on the engine block pad on the passenger side just below the head and above the waterpump. If the numbers match there you are looking at something around $30,000 for starters I would think.

Assuming the whole car is in eight out of ten condition, numbers matching, correct color. $29,000

Color changed -$2,000
If NOM minus another -$2,500

IMHO

Ya need to check for rust underneath - frame, suspension, etc.
Also check the birdcage rust... also automatic is less $.

Looks like a nice car

Big block +
Good condition +
Non original color -
Automatic -

If the frame & bird cage are clean I'd say $27,000 - $30,000

Since it's a dealer they probably want 35 - 40 K

I never saw one that clean for near 15k. They probably want 35-40k. If it was a 4spd. It would be more. There is a guy in my area that had a black/black clone 70 Lt1 4spd. for sale, about a month ago. It was in superb condition and it was very fast ( I drove it), but the brakes were weak, and if I bought it I would upgrade them. He was asking $20k firm. I'd say it was worth it, because of the condition.

OK... I went to see the car this afternoon.
Its going for 42000.
The Black is not original and the salesman said the paint job was 10k alone... but by the time I was done looking he said it was 15k.
I didnt see the trim tag... i couldn't see the VIN because it was in a garage without a light on and I had nothing but gray skies light coming in from the full glass roll-up doors.
The rear end had some fluid froming a drip...
No AC...
The frame looked from what I could see is not 42k... It had small bubbles in areas on the surface under portions of black paint.
I didn't stay any longer because the salesman stated to his buddies before loking at the car, "This will only take a minute..."

$42k for a coupe with changed paint and likely other issues, no way.

The salesman said it was one of his customer's cars... So the 42k is marked up so the dealership gets cash too. The real owner might only want 30k or less.

Thanks everyone for the input...I appreciate it.

The no ac kills my interest anyway. I figured a dealer would want in the 40k range. That's a little absurd though considering Coffee's, which is about an hour north of me, just had a 68, all matching and restored, black, auto, small block, which they were asking $39k for. Car was just sold though when I called.

Ah, yes, the old dealer markup. I know they need to make a profit, but what gets me about some of these "Collector Car" dealers is their desire to make a killing on every sale. I guess it happens often enough, where someone just walks in and says, "I'll take it, 'cause I have more $$ than sense", that they continue to do business this way.

As I read through the ad, I was getting the feeling that this car was restored just to be resold. Even though there was a lot of $$, effort and time put into the restoration, the little details didn't add up to a car worth $40k. For example, note the glossy paint under the hood, and the pic of the console revealed accumulated dust, crud and scratches.

The lack of underside & frame pics also spoke volumes. Takeaway Lesson: buy from a CF Member who cared for their car and can answer all of your questions regarding history and restoration.

Ok, according to what you said here, I take back that price. It may only be worth 25k or less.
This is why you need to check out a car. The seller must agree to a complete inspection by a serious potential buyer's mechanic. If not, walk away. Never let a seller rush you. That's a sign of a hustler. There are still plenty of reputable people selling cars.

Agreed.. I bought my 72, black on black, form a private party and did the same... not sure of its value now, considering the market....its a 454, numbers matching, with original ppwk..original color was silver and I intented to bring it back, but i started to like the black and kept it..
