Default 1971 Vert Project Car...What's it worth?

My brother has a 71 vert project car that I would like to buy and we need some help determining what I should pay for it.

The car is a complete car except for the auto tranny and I he is going to keep the 350 engine. Other than that all the stuff is there, it has sat out in the weather for a few years.

it was repainted once sometime in the past. the chrome is fair, the seats and interior in pretty good shape, but it needs carpet, and the dash knobs, lettering, emblems, etc. need to be replaced.

All of the stuff under the hood in intact (no cut wires or pluged hoses). The top is in fair shape but would have to be re-dyed.

It has a lugage rack that I would want to remove.

Any help on figuring out a price would be appreciated

I just got a peak of it yesterday. It has been rescued from sitting out and has been in a garage for the last 6 months. Unfortunately it is wall to wall with other cars and stuff. We pulled the cover off and put the top down and looked under the hood.

My bro says frame is pretty rust free.

My appologies' my Vette knowledge is limited to C5 and C6Z06...birdcage?

I will get some pix soon, what should I focus on besides engine, interior, top, etc.?

PRETTY RUST FREE HMMMM!
Check winshield pillars, Kickups ( frame at rear wheels), They rust from the inside so don't be afraid to give them a few taps with a Ballpene hammer. Trailing arms and other suspension parts

It's your brother. You should get it for less than it's worth. Whatever that is.

Gary,

Without pics, it is impossible to tell what this car is worth. You say the car was repainted. Is it up to your standards? Good paint jobs on C3's are now averaging $7-8k. Is the 350 engine in the car the original engine? If so, and you allow your brother to remove it, it makes your Vert worth less. Plus, you will have the expense and trouble of installing an engine plus the already mentioned trans.

I'm gonna say that this car may have some rust issues, since it has sat neglected for years. Ask a local Forum Member to help you evaluate the car, just so you know what you are in for in terms of getting the car restored to a satisfactory level.

You help him take the engine out. He helps you push it home.
He has freed up space. Key word is free.

Rickman,
Sorry for not getting some pics...I'm out of town until the end of the week, but your comments help.

The re-paint is poor and is showing cracks but I plan on doing a complete frame off resto and installing a LS1 with a T-56 six speed. I already have the LS1.

I'm trying to establish a fair value for the base car. If it's rust free (which I serisouly doubt) it has a higher value and I won't have to have the frame blasted.

The chrome is good but not great. some of the lower bumper pieces are dented. the top has been replaced but shows the signs of being out in the weather. the carpet needs replacing.

This is a good project car because it's original and not altered but it looks very rough to the average person.
