We are trying to sell a Corvette. It is a 1968, however in it's lifetime a 1981 clip was installed on the nose. The engine is a generic 350 with 4 bolt mains, and the tranny is asumed to be a 4 speed.
It is currently up on jack stands waiting for someone to do right by her. She needs a frame up restoration, too many hands have had their way with her.
I have photos which show her condition, is there a way to post them here? What I am looking for is some genuine advice as to what she may be worth in her sad condition.
Thanks for the reply. The sale price you quoted is pretty much what I thought to be about right. We have had a lot of tire kickers, mostly those thinking they can BS a couple of "dumb" women.
I know about grease under the finger nails and so does my daugher. She had a big hand in restoring her '65 Mustang Fastback ten years ago. Me, I started working on VW's at the age of 13..........not my choice, I was the last kid home so I had to fill the gap, this proved to be invalueable!!
My first Corvette; '60 Corvette body was sold to pay for daughter's birth in 1970!!! Me and the husband divorced in '75, he got custody of the '63 split window and I got the kid..........I got the better of the deal!!

If its in need of a complete restoration as you said, that and the wrong nose and motor would put the sale price a bit below $4500. Its possible potential buyers are thinking the same thing, and not trying to scam you because of your gender.
Yup, could be what you say..............except for this one guy that wanted to buy it. He came up with a car hauler and threw a roll of $1900.00 at my daugher. He pretty much thought he could touch our softer side with the story of; don't know when I could get a trailer and my friends together again, AND I will pay the rest Monday, just let me haul it away NOW!! Well my daughter told him to go home. The next weekend he didn't show up as promised and/or call. So much for the honesty of strangers!! We have not heard from him since!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The car is worth what we are asking......6K, but 5K will getter gone.
I figured I would chime in here as a non-expert that has looked at a couple of projects lately.
Mis-matched project cars seem to be quite common and I have seen several running and drivable cars in the 4K range. I have walked away from some complete vehicles for under $3000 to avoid insulting the seller with an offer that I felt was fair so don't take it personally. If it is not running the guy with the $1900 might just have felt that is what the car was worth to him. He just may have been the type that is not concerned about offending others.
Whether the guy offering $1900 did so because he thought you were an easy mark as a female or because he thought thats what it was worth obviously cannot be determined. Doesnt matter.
The fact is, a complete, running, all one color '68 coupe with an '81 nose on it might be worth in the $4500 range to someone looking for a cheap toy. Most buyers will stay away from it, but there are buyers for it out there.
The biggest issue is the mixed "era" in my eyes. A '68 coupe with an NOM isnt worth a ton to begin with, but when you add a nose that is from a much later time and mix the rubber nose with the 60's tail and chrome bumper, you get a clumsy look which doesnt help your sale prospects.
Now, if the fact is that the car needs a complete restoration, you are in a completely different ballpark. Now you have a $4000 car that probably needs $10000 worth of work. I dont really know how much work, because those details/pics still havent been offered. But lets say its in that ballpark. How much is the car worth then? I wouldnt even give $1900 for a car thats worth $4000 on its best day that needs $5000-$10000 worth of work. Would you?
Again, we are guessing here because not enough info is offered, but this is what I would do: Get a cheap used '68/'69 nose section. Have a shop take off your '81 nose and install the stock-looking one. This might cost a bit, but now you have: 1. an '81 nose for sale, which should sell easily and 2. an enormously improved car for sale... a '68 with a stock looking body, with NOM. A nice project for someone looking for a bumper car thats affordable. Thats what I would do.
Thanks to all of your responses. You guys have put the car into the correct perspective. It is a money pit!!!! I guess I will advertise it for $4500 OBO and see what the heck happens.
It is a convertable. There is NO frameage for the rag top and there is NO hardtop. The title is for a '68.
I am going to re-post the Corvette on Craigslist, (Snohomish County, Washington state) Thursday morning PST. I will have some pictures of the car there.
I don't know how to post pictures here at the forum and frankly I am too lazy to learn how!! If you email me privately I can send you the photos and maybe you can post them for me (or not)??
