value of 73 vert w/frame-off restore
I'm trying to determine the value of a 73 vert that is for sale. The owner did a frame-off and converted it to a 454 with a 5 speed from a 350/auto. He has over $40k in receipts with new everything, a real beauty. He puts the value at $34k, I figure $25k max as it a '73.The NADA and gold book say higher, but my concern is it is not a 68-72 class. Any opinions? Thanks.

Being that it is now a non-matching numbers 73 vert, I'd think 25k would even be high. A major factor in what it is worth is are all the matching numbers pieces still around or not, if they are not it's really going to hurt it. If they are then 25k isn't a bad price albeit still a bit high. I picked up a 69 vert non-matching numbers car with a new frame and a frame off already done, needed interior and some minor body work for 12k. It was originally a base engine 4 spd car but had a really nicely built 468 installed along with a lot of VB&P suspension upgrades already installed. Pics of it are in my photos, along with my 73 BB coupe. When you start to get in the mid 30's price range you better be talking about a #'s matching big block car when talking C3's. If everything is perfect on the car and the matching number components are still available and in working order, then you may get 25k out of the right buyer. The market is pretty soft right now.

Way too high.
If it was completely original then it would be worth it and then only if it was really nice. You should be able to find very nice 73 verts for $20K all original with small blocks or non original big blocks for maybe a little less than $20K.
I think the NADA books only have values for original cars. Do not confuse that with non original cars

Too high!
Way too high of a price for a non-numbers matching car unless YOU like all the non stock changes that have been made.
I agree with one of the above remarks....for a C3 to sell in the $30k plus range the car would need to be ALL numbers matching and in excellent condition inside and out especially '73 and newer cars.

numbers shumbers.......
If this is a car you would have liked to build yourself he has all the receipts, not including man hours.
Then why not buy it and save your self some $$$ and time.

Being a frame-off restore and $40k in rceipts with a period correct 454 and a 5-speed with new interior, suspension, paint, brakes, etc,it becomes a very nice resto-mod! Not bad for $25k,but excessive at $34k. The guy will never recover his investment. I wish it was a '72.

why? the '73s look so much better... (my opinion) to each his own i guess. If you really wish is was a '72 don't waste your money on buying this '73. Personally, I don't see why there are some many haters on the '73.

A perfect 73 vert 454 4speed is had to find in a NCRS numbers car with proof it is what it is and could bring up to the high 30's. This small block now 454 with the five speed if the mods are what you want and the colors you like I would make an offer and see what happens. If the buyer has limited time, tools, and talent this is the way to get a nice ride.
Take the car out and see if it drives and runs as nice as it looks because that is very important.

I don't agree. It just has to be something that a buyer is willing to pay $30k+ for. This sounds like a pretty nice car that had a lot of $$ put into it. Evidently, it was worth it to the current owner. It may be worth it to someone else.

I purchased a 76 t-top last spring for $16k. It was a frame-on restoration with $35k in receipts. At some point it is a losing investment to restore these mid 70s vettes. Now this guy has buried $40k in his 73,but can't come to the realization that he is going to take a loss on it's true market value.
