Default 79 L48 with L82 emblems. Is it worth what I paid?

I found what I thought to be a 79 L82 and after buying it I started checking and found out it is actually an L48 with L82 emblems. Motor is very strong. I'ts been built. Paint is 7 out of ten. Interior 9 of 10. Drives 9 of 10. Should I be upset that I didn't catch this before, or did I still get a great deal? Help me out guys, my pride's hurt. I paid 5,500 for the vette.

Since you didn't state what you paid, I can't offer any opinion on what kind of deal you got but if you're happy with the car that's the main thing. Sounds like a nice car. If the motor has been built it's probably faster than a stock L82 anyway. The L82 would add a little value but it's not like the difference between big block and small block cars. I wouldn't worry about it if you're otherwise happy with the car.

I wouldn't worry much about it. Not to reiterate what blackbird said, but as long as you are happy with it thats all that matters. These cars really aren't THAT valuble anyway, but they sure are fun. Looks good with that later style front bumper

You got ripped off.
Thats like buying a 307 powered Camaro rebadged like a Z28.

not necessarily, it depends what the seller told him and it also depends what the buyer asked. If he said is this really a l82 ? and the seller said yes, then yes he did get ripped off, but if no one asked then i dont see either party at blame, but like the other guys said, it doesnt matter, his car is faster than a l82 anyway. post some pics and lets take a look.
you can get a free account at photobucket and post the picks here its easy.

He told me it was an L82 twice. My fault for not researching. Trying to post pics. Not having any luck.

Yes, You should have done your homework before you wrote the check and you would have run across the L48/L82 discrepancy...

BUT $5500 isn't bad for what you have.

At 5500 I think you did fine. Keep the emblems and enjoy the car.

I think Karfever is right on the money, keep the car and enjoy it. It's hard to go wrong for $5,500. My question would be...Did the pervious owner know it was an L-48 before he sold it? Did he misrepresent the car on purpose?

A couple of things.
1: $5500 ain't nothing if you intend to keep it, but if you were buying because it was cheap and thought you could turn a couple grand on an L-82 then you got ripped.
2:Look on your paper work and if it says L-82 on it you can get your money back, and I don't think they would want you to take it any further.
Its all about the money and lies.

L82 or not, it sounds like a fairly good deal based on your description. Where I'm at, we can't touch junk for $5500. If your avatar is the actual car, it looks pretty good. If you aren't happy, just let me know, I need a C3 for my wife.

Default 79 L48 with 82 emblems.

I did buy this vette to resale. Still intend to. It's a sharp vette, yellow. I'ts on ebay now. That's where the market is. Bill of sale does say L82. The guy I bought it from probably knew. He had it for 15 years. I found out in one day. Thanks for the opinions.

I just saw your EBAY ad. It looks pretty clean and I noticed that you revised the listing about the non-L82, that was very respectible to do.

I couldn't disagree more. Maybe coming from the SVT side of the fence, and seeing everything from V6 Mustangs to F150s incorrectly adorned with the "coiled snake" cobra emblem, I have come to loathe and despise poseurs. While you can easily make it outperform an L82, it'll never be an original L82. Just my $.02, YMMV.

To the OP: Whatever your opion, I think you got a hell of a bargain and you should enjoy your 'vette.

*edit: good luck turning it around :-D

Uh... time out here.

Firstly, this is a shining example of what I keep screaming around here. If the buyer does not check the numbers, the buyer deserves to get taken.

You are incredibly lucky, though, because $5500 is essentially nothing.

However, I see you say the car in the avatar is the car you bought. I can't believe this hasnt come up yet, but are you aware that is an '80-82 nose and doesnt look remotely like a '79?????

The emblems are the LEAST of your issues.

$5500 is a bargain if it is in even decent shape and L-48.

Hello? The entire nose has been changed. If the OP didnt bother to check the numbers himself, it's a pretty good guess he did not see this glaring red flag and look for prior body & frame damage.

A guy is trying to convince me a Vette I'm looking at is a '75 when everything about it says 1980, including the VIN. Both bumpers, interior/dash design, motor, everything. I can't seem to convince him.
