Default Seven LT-1's for sale

In the current June issue of Hemmings Motor News, there are 7 LT-1's for sale. The most I've seen at one time.

I don't get Hemmings Could you post year model and asking price and if a 72 has A/C I like to keep up with the market but only at on line spots. I think Hemmings is on line after a few weeks after the date mailed.

I read that too, and believe they were specifically referring to the 72 LT-1 cars with factory A/C (the most rare among all 70-72 LT-1 cars).

They are there.....at least one of them at $100k. And believe it or not it was a hard decision to set a price at that level. It's my car. It may be the best original one remaining of the first year LT-1 and in convertible form. And I put a significant premium for an original unrestored car with low miles and in superb condition versus a restored car. But if you look at what other GM brands are getting for their cars, it is quite easy to justify that price in my opinion. As Corvette owners, we need to elevate our opinion and value of the Corvettes we own. Corvettes are the best of all American brands. Why should '69 Z/28s command the $75-100k (and up) price tags when they made 10,000 (or 20,000 I can't remember exactly) of them? Is that a better collector car than the '70 LT-1 which is far rarer and would show its taillights to the Z/28 in any racing contest chosen. The downside of that is we buy and sell Corvettes amongst us, and when Corvette prices go up, some people get upset. I don't have an answer for that.

If you want to compare the Z28 high performance package against the LT-1 package, here are your comparisons.

1967 Camaro Z28 602 produced, 1970 Corvette LT-1 1287 produced

1968 Camaro Z28 7199 produced, 1971 Corvette LT-1 1949 produced

1969 Camaro Z28 20302 produced, 1972 Corvette LT-1 1741 produced.

Taking the best of the Z/28s, which is the '69, versus the best of the LT-1s, which is 1970, the difference in production is quite significant. However, desireability is in large part a function of rarity and popularity. While the Z/28 is not low production, it was very popular. While the LT-1 is low production, it was not well known. The 427 was a memory by 1970 and horsepower was on the decline starting in 1971. And the LS6 did not make Corvette production in 1970. So, the high-performance LT-1 was the only real performance engine and it was not cheap at over $400, I believe.

Every dog has its day, and the LT-1s are now starting to receive the recognition for what they were intended to be. If anyone has any doubts about the performance, they only need to drive one. It's an absolutely thrilling experience.

If you want to keep it you may need to up your price soon as you have the car that will reach the 100K real soon. Nice car low miles with the awards to prove it!

It is easy to see that the folks or "investors" who may feel that this is the next emerging market are going to jump on this quick. Documented, LT-1's original or faithfully restored, at these prices will seem like a bargain in 3 - 5 years. I agree with Early Sharks opinion that these cars are finally getting the respect and recognition they are due. Depending on what side of the fence you are on, this is either a blessing or a curse.

Midyrman..............your LT-1 with docs and awards is certainly a rare car. Been looking for over a year at LT-1's and yours may infact be the best vert in the country......sure would love to see it at one of the many vette shows in Florida....please let me know if you go to any of the many vette shows.....not far away from Naples....I am in Sebring.

I looked at 3 LT-1's at Humpty Dumpty last summer. 2 WBY LT-1's...one was quite nice. The other a red coupe had been repainted from its original green exterior color and was least impressive of the cars. One of the WBY cars had lots of documentation but the NCRS award if I remember correct was from many years ago....nothing recent. In the end I passed on all 3 cars. Sounds like there may be 2 of the 2 LT-1's I looked at last year at Humpty Dumpty's now.

Early Shark........did you see the 2 LS6 cars in Hemmings? I thought you might find them of some interest...nice to see your post!!!

Yes, I did. The Ontario orange coupe is a Rockford, Ill car, Kurt the owner consigned it to Mecums auction at Bloomington Gold Corvettes in 2006, it was bid to 130K and did not sell. It is documented with partial original window invoice sheet. Has had a body off restoration, however some mechanical items are incorrect. Will be interesting to see where the bids end up this year at Mecums other venue.

The Mulsanne blue coupe is a mystery, as the ad states it is in original condition, however it also states A/C, you can't have it both ways. I am leary as to the authenticity of this car, something is not right!
