I am definitely new to the board and to corvettes in general. I have been in the classic Jeep world for a long time, but I'm looking at purchasing a 76 as a gift for my father. I'm looking for any input on it that anyone can offer. I've already got a deposit down on it.

The paint on this car is not perfect, but does look good. I don't see any rust on it anywhere. They're looking to sell in the $12K range. I'm really looking for any education you can offer me, so have at it!
Thanks so much, this site is an excellent resource!

Looks like a nice car. Price might be a little high, but prices vary across the country. The question only you can answer is: Is this the Corvette for you?
Sounds like a nice car, but for that price, it should be about perfect. My bitches from the pics are that the stock aircleaner assembly and ignition shielding are missing. This is fairly minor but may or may not be indicative of other bubba repairs. I would have the car inspected by a mechanic who knows Corvettes, and offer around $9 or $10k if it checked out. It sounds like you've already agreed on the price, but you should still go ahead with an inspection.
12k sounds good if its in 'very nice & ready to drive' driver's condition like it sounds right now.
Nice that it has a manual trans.
I'd never really believe low mileage without some sort of documentation but not sure if that should really affect the price over the condition of car itself.
No harm in trying to negotiate a lower price but 10-12k is in the right ballpark, i think.
I'd have a mechanic look over the car and underneath just to be sure everything is A-okay.
It's local to me in the midwest. I'm mainly interested in key things I should be looking at/checking and if the price seems to be in the right ballpark.
There is an option for a full drivetrain warranty that runs close to $1000. I've had good (lucky) experiences with these warranties before, but I'm not sure about the value of it on a car like this. I could use some advice on that side as well.
Thanks so much guys, I really appreciate the help!!!

Warrantees are like buying insurance. Personally, I never buy them but sometimes they can make sense. If they are offering you one, that probably means the car is in good shape. That said, you can't always be sure. 1k sounds like alot to me, maybe you can negotiate a lower rate. If it gives you peace of mind then get it. There is no right or wrong answer here.
That's kind of along the lines that I was thinking. It's really a crapshoot though. I've bought them before on late model vehicles and really done well with them (repairs exceeding $2000 over what I paid for the warranty). I suppose I'm not as concerned with a vehicle that doesn't have computers and such on board. Any other input is definitely welcomed. I'm going to close the deal on this one in the AM.
