I'm a C5 guy, don't know a whole lot about C3's (as far as value). Came across a 1976 L-48 auto coupe. It's white with a white/red interior (red in the middle of the seats with white on the side bolsters and white/red on the doors). The owner told me the interior white/red combo on a white coupe was only done on 5 cars (I don't know where to verify that fact). The body has 104,000 miles and the motor was rebuilt 2K miles ago. Runs solid, no underbody rust, paint is original with a few knicks and chips, has about a 1 inch crack on the front left fender and it's missing the surround on the left headlamp. Needs a vacuum can for the lights. He's asking $15,500 for it.
The car looks good (about a 10 foot paint job) and looks solid mechanically. He said it's a numbers matching car, but I'll have to verify that.
Appreciate any help you all can give a C5 guy. PM's are fine if you want to. Thanks!

That's an option I never heard of either. But it's simple to tell for sure, check the trim tag on the left door jamb and check the codes (or post them here and someone will tell you the colors it was originally). The price seems a little on the high side though!!!!

15k or higher should be a excellent condition 76' car that needs nothing... (almost) perfect paint... definitely NOT a 10 footer quality.
Check the selling prices on ebay auctions and you'll see that the top prices for excellent cond. 76's usually go no higher than 15k.
Have someone check the car out for you cause it sounds like its worth below 10K to me.
As for that color combo... it probably only has value to whoever really likes it.

No two color interiors for '76. Wherever the white/red came from, it wasn't St. Louis.
$15K is a bit pricey. If you keep looking, you can probably find more '76 for the same money.
Easy to verify matching numbers. Next time you visit the car, take a pen, note pad, scrubby or steel wool, and small flashlight. Check VIN, engine pad stampings at the front of the block by the right head (may need the scrubby/steel wool to remove road gook), trim tag on the driver's door hinge post. Post the numbers and we'll decode them for you.

Ask the seller to verify the 1 of 5 claim. He will not be able to.
All Vettes came with a solid interior until the C5 mod red combo was
offered (except '82 CE). Walk away from this sale.

isn't that firethorn? red and white? i looked at one in jersey about 2 months ago, and the guy who was selling it (who i actually knew for a while) told me it was the original interior. all white seats, red rug, red dash, white door, with red rug trim at the bottom. trim code was firethorn.. (don't remember the id tag number)

You did not read the post correctly:
white/red interior (red in the middle of the seats with white on the side bolsters and white/red on the doors).
I have seen these 2-tone interiors before. They have been noted as original.
I can neither confirm or deny they are stock, but I agree :
It ain't gonna change the value of a 76 L48 auto.
Numbers matching ... not much value there, either.
I'd say at best ... 10k.
I paid 6k for my 76 L48 matching number 4 spd w/AC car 114k miles. Looking at the values on these cars I have to agree this is a 7500 car at most. You can get an older nicer C3 for 15K. Keep looking
Thanks to everyone for your responses. After speaking with the buyer today, he could not verify the interior (said he was told this by the man he bought it from). Also checked the trim numbers on the left door jam and and it was originally firethorn, must have been a dealer or aftermarket job. I'm gonna pass. thanks again,
Jack

Nope firethorn is one solid color...burgandy.My 76 is firethorn and the only white in it is me.

Actually a two tone interior was an option in 76 and offered in 77 as well but not to many takers. I've seen one low-mileage original coupe on the judging field and even have some pictures of it in my archives. But...the seats were/are solid and so are the door panels...I don't recall any two tone stuff. The seats, door panels and carpet were of one color (white) and than dash and trim were of another color...I think red.
The value...can't disagree with any of those already stated...it's still a 104,000 76 coupe with no options and a screwed up interior.
