I went and checked out Mikes 72. He said it has had new stainless brakes, braided brake lines, mufflers and pipes, u-joints, and a 400 turbo transmission put in it within the past two years. The car has sat for a number of years before and after he has made the upgrades. He said the motor was rebuilt around 8 years ago and they put a cam in it. The car starts up on the first turn of the key without having to give it any gas, it did smoke a little on start up and it smoked white puffs that burned my eyes so I think the carb is loading up. You can tell it has a cam in it from the rough (lopey) idle.
I didnt drive it because the brakes something or other is out and he said its hard to stop and he thought it was because of the vacuum thingamajig. The car is a base 350/400 auto and the numbers match for the block and vin. There is no carpet and it has a few small tears in the seats. The door panels and dash looked good, just dusty. Its missing its front bumper and needs new front grills. The big block hood is missing the inserts but its smooth underneath (so I think its original hood, not original to the car). The rear bumpers and taillights looked good and he said they are new. One of the light covers needs replaced. There were a lot of parts in boxes inside the car and in his shop. This guy is a paint and body man and put the car in primer. There are still a few spots on the body that needed to be fixed but the body looked straight from what I could tell.
I couldnt tell if there was any rust in the birdcage because it had the pillars on them, there was no rust around the visable part of the vin. I didnt get on the ground and check the frame because I was working and in a suit. If anyone is serious about the car I can go back and look further. I have over 30 high def pictures of the car if anyone wants to take a look just shoot me an email.
I dont know Mike, only met him today when I went and looked at his car. He seemed nice enough and was very pleasant to talk with. Im sure if you have anymore questions you can give him a call.
Here are some of the pics I took...
