Please advise, I have an opportunity to buy a 1971 LT1 coupe Ontario orange ps,pb, pw, tilt/tele and leather interior. The cars numbers all match with the exception of the alt., starter and water pump. It also has all the correct ignition shielding and even the smog equipment. The motor and brakes have been professionally rebuilt with receipts. The actual mileage is about 78K. The over all condition is above average driver quality. The frame has zero rust. The cars only documentation is a title. No tank sticker, No warranty book or pro-tec-to plate. I can buy for 22k what do you think.
Thats a pretty good price for all the options it has. I have seen coupes go for anywhere from $15-30 depending on condition. I was looking at the exact same car combination last year for $22 in texas. You will love the motor I had a 71 Lt1 convertible last year.
I would not call it an excellent deal, it's priced where it should be. With docs it's 24-26k, with weak paint etc., it's 18-20k. If you like it, and it's a solid real LT1, buy it. They're not making any more of those. Good Luck
I would check to see if the Amplifier for the transitorized ignition system is in place. Often, they have been removed and the distributor has been replaced. If the amplifier is in place, it is a good sign that the car is an original LT-1. If not, it will cost a few bucks to return the car to stock. Ask the owner if it is still there. If he doesn't know....then he does not know his car and may not know much about LT-1s. Maybe I'm being a bit overly cautious but better that way than the other. Good luck. LT-1s are great cars.....the engine loves to rev and is virtually bullet proof. Price seems fair. However, if you have to put $5000 or more into the car, you will have a hard time recouping your money.
