What year? If a 78 or later, there are two screws that go in through the bottom on an angle...near the front. One each side

Early 70's have studs on the gage bezel that go through the shift console...and fastened to the console with nuts.

Take the front side extensions off the shifter console.
Look in and there should be a metal bracket that bolts to the
hump of the floor. The studs/nuts should be accessible.

I have taken the radio out (not easily) with the guage cluster
in place, too.

I actually found it easier to get out the center screws from the console side panels by taking out the seats. With them in, I had to really push them down to get to the screws and figured I'd never be able to get them back in without damaging some leather.

Be very careful of the cluster. Just above the gages and just below the outlet vents, the die cast cluster housing gets very thin and fragile at the outer edges. It will break very easily.

If both sides of the cluster housing break you will have an upper cluster assembly which holds the wiper switch and the air outlets. The lower cluster will have the gages and the radio. You will find that the two halves can be reinstalled separately. However, if I remember correctly, you will find that your wipers no longer work because the ground for the wipers used to go all the way through the housing itself. With the housing in two pieces, there is no longer continuity to ground.

Yep, NH is right ... I pulled the gauge bezel and radio off my 76 a couple of months ago to replace it with a Blaupunkt with a custom bezel. The bezel is held in by those two nuts which thread onto studs that are integral with the bezel. Pull the left and right wing covers off adn you get to them with a deep socket .. I think they're 5/16 or 1/4 - something like that. And about near impossible to see.

If you're planning to re-use the bezel, heed Jim's caution about how fragile that bezel is .. as careful as I was, mine broke coming out

Good luck.

Default More Bezel Advice

This posting was timely as I plan to replace my stock GM deck with a modern DIN type deck. Sorry to digress from the original question. My request is for advice on replacing my original bezel. The tradeoff I have to make is to cut the radio opening of an aftermarket brown Collectors bezel which can be bought from Ecklers, or to purchase a black aftermarket bezel specifically with a DIN radio opening, but which will not match the cars interior. Has anyone any experience modifying their radio opening to fit the DIN style and recommendations you can offer.

Thanks for any advice.

May as well replace the light bulbs while you're in there.

Measure and mark the opening for the new radio. Then, very carefully, cut the hole with a dremel tool.
