I'm gonna say the most important tool to have is another car to drive you to the parts store while in the middle of a project.

Steve above mentioned a torque wrench.
I have a Craftsman 3/8 drive that measures from 25 to 250 ft-lbs. Its a good idea to have this wrench and a smaller one that measures inch pounds too.
