What would you consider cheaper?
I was browsing through www.Strokermotor.com and Noticed a 383 Stroke Shortblock for roughly 2200, and a full crate for around 3500. It puts out an adequate 390 hp, and I was wondering, instead of renovating parts in my stock 350 to get it to put out around 390 hp, would it be cheaper to drop in a whole new motor? Id imagine it would be easier to do the motor as well, but look foward to your opinions. Thanks.

The whole motor is always easier. Just unbolt the old and bolt in the new and you are ready to go. I personally like to build up the motor as I know what is inside and how all the work was done. There are planty of good crate motors out there for a good price.

I have not heard of anyone purchasing a crate from those guys and I have spoke with people at Strokemotor.com...their motors seem pretty good for the price, however; they offer no warranty and basically its yours after you bought it. I know some say warranties are overrated, but I like to have a sense of security when i purchase a crate. Thats just me.

Maybe take a look at Ohio Crank if you are in the market. I have not used them but I would consider them on my list of potential vendors.
I have bought parts from Flatlander racing and they have a VERY long list of stroker combinations. They have a vitrual smorgasboard of kits on the web site. Mix and match up just about anything. They do a lot of drop shipping mostly and the girls on the phone lines are a little green but I like the way they sell parts overall. No flash, just real parts and you can spend as much as you like.
Like others have posted, I like to do my own assembly work. It is not hard and with the right book to guide you I think anyone can do it.

Lots of benefits to the crate motor option - new motor, warranty, less work, etc. Basically speed costs money how fast do you want to go?
If you go the other route of building your own engine up its more about the experience, the learning, the pride in saying you did it yourself, impressing all the guys at car shows, etc...

off of 18 west on 66 in neptune, they do a cruise in every wednesday(?) night...
