255/60/15's hit or fit poll
A question for everybody who has tried 255/60/15 tires on the front of their C3.
I need new tires. The tires on my 69' are 215/75 and about 20 years old. I would really like to run 255's. My tire dealer will have to order the tires, so I don't want to get them and they rub.
With this poll, I am assuming that all C3 wheels except 68 were the same --- 8" wide with 4" backspacing. Please let me know if this is wrong. Also I am trying to determine if there were any changes through the years that would affect tire fitment?? I guess I mean is it easier to fit 255's on the front of an 80' than a 69'. I know that 255's were the factory tires for later models, so info from ppl with earlier C3's will be the most help. Would big or small block make any difference??
I have searched the forum and found a few threads about tire size, but it seems that there is always someone who says these tires didn't fit on their car.
If you participate in the poll, please post the year of your corvette along with the engine size. I don't know if the engine size has anything to do with it, but maybe the poll will tell.

i think its a corvette to corvette basis, you're gonna have to measure to find out for sure. I have a 75 that they rub on, and a 73 that they fit perfectly. Oops, forgot the engine size. 75 is a 350 automatic. 73 is a 383 stroker with a muncie, (aluminum heads, aluminum radiator), car i slowered 2" in front using vbp springs.

You will most likely have a slight rub the inside on very tight turns... As for the rear... 255/60's hit the E brake brackets AND the mufflers. I have the stock exhaust set-up. Discount tire said they will fit "no problem they do it all the time". NOT! They orderd the tires and found out the hit in the rear.

tires
I had them on my 69-new, my 75-new and now on my 79. All with stock rally wheels. No contact with any part of the car. Started useing them when BFG brought them out in my area in 70.

They fit on my 80. Every once in a while if I have the wheel turned all the way if the car is at JUST the right angle they'll rub, but that's it.

Hit with no hits with both the stock rims (ralleys) and my AR-136's which have 3.75" backspacing.

My 255s hit the front sway bar on very tight turns. They will fit the rear fine, they will however be very close to the emergency brake cable bracket and to the muffler. The muffler and the exhaust pipe won't hit the tire but it is getting very hot so the tire won't like it...
I relocated the bracket and changed the mufflers from left to right so they would be closer to the center. I run 275s in the rear, pics are in my gallery.

My '82 had the OEM 255/60R15 Eagle GT's and the OEM 15" x 8" N90 wheels when I bought it:
they fit fine, w/ no problems.
As they were a bit dried-out, I bought the same-size BFG T/A Radials, which DO rub slightly at 'lock', but nothing that concerns me much.

I have them on my vette. They did not rub until full lock while I had the stock ralley rims on there. Now with the TTII's they rub before lock so I am more careful and try to avoid full lock when possible. I have a 70 with a 350.

Had the Eagle GT's on my '80 and they didn't hit. Swapped those out with Firestone Firehawk 500's and they don't hit either. This is with the standard Corvette slotted rims.

The BFG 255x60x15' fit front and rear without any problems whatsoever. Mine is an '80 model with a 350 (L-48). I can turn lock to lock and not rub at all.
