My stock '78 350 doesn't have a lot of power but it will get out of it's own way. Having a 4 speed helps just wish the rpm's came up a little faster. Anyone know any cheap/quick fixes like a free flowing converter?

Mine's a cruiser. I'm in the middle of a switch from Eldebrock/ torquer to a BG 750 mech secondary/ Performer RPM to gain some more WOT ooomph once LARS gets hold of it come November 6th but 90% of the time I'm pretty docile. Every once in a while I get squirelly but to spend $10,000.00 to say I got 11 versus 13 second quarter mile who cares. I'll put that 10K in my house and net an equity increase of $50,000.00.

My point is that we all enjoy our Vettes for different reasons. One is not better than another, per se. It's ok to own/purchase the same car for different reasons. That's why its a fun hobby.
If we all looked real hard at the Vette/auto hobby as being a good investment, then we're kidding ourselves. Some guys have gotten good at turning them and making some $$, but that's the VAST minority. Even then, $$ is better spent elsewhere if we're talking about investments. Take whatever you put into your car and put it into real estate, or something else, and you'd be $$ ahead. I buy residential real estate as lease property, FWIW.
Trust me... there's not ONE of us on here that bought a Vette _just_ for transportation purposes. If anyone says they did, they are lying. A C3 is not considered a practical car. It's a fun car, for many reasons listed here in this thread... cruising, going fast, "getting looks", etc.

Paul, by fast standards, mine is relatively slow too. I enjoy cruising which is what I do all the time. But I like a car that can light up the tires at will with one press of the pedal. I'm still considering improving this one or possibly changing her out with one that will.

LOL Paul...you must be addressing the post 1971 C3 owners!!
If I spend mega dollars and only get a few tenths in the 1/4 mile, I'll pour gas on the car and collect the insurance!!!
Lots of cars are raced in the 1/4 mile that weren't DESIGNED for that purpose. Part of the fun is getting a car that WASN'T made for that purpose to perform BETTER than one that was made for the strip

There is nothing better than cruising in a Vette. It's fun to "blow the carbon" out of it every now and then, but cruising and listening to the rumble of that V8 just can't be beat

Mine is moderatly slow. How funny, though, that I was just thinking of this the other day.
The car has very good street manners, doesn't overheat, belch fuel-rich smoke, steering and braking are precise and responsive, is reliable, everything works (okay, not the clock) and the interior is quite comforable. My thoughts were that this car is really no more difficult to live with than a '72 Impala would have been back then. Sure, it performs a lot better than an Impala but as far a compromises, there's something to be said for a 72 Base engine car that hasn't been fiddled with too much.

My 73 is embarrasingly slow right now
I am building a 383 for it right now, but I am putting in a relatively mild cam because it wil stilll be mostly a cruiser. I just want to be able to put it on a dyno sometime and not have to hold my head down in shame.

Mine is slow by todays standards. I just enjoy the cruising aspect. I would like to take it to the strip once just to see what it will do. I think it is faster now (with stock L98 TPI) than it was new and that's good enough for me.

I have a '73 convertible and it is by no means a "really fast" car, but I could care less. The enjoyment I get out of it is cruising around town and on the highway and just having fun in it. I have nothing against anyone modifying their own cars and in fact love looking at what people have done but it's not for me.
