Anyone with a mini-blower(142, 144 or 177)? What hood?
I just put a Weiand 177 supercharger on my 1975. Has anyone ever done or seen a miniblower actually fit under a tall cowl hood? I think if I cut the choke horn off my carb and make my own air cleaner that uses the hood as the top of the cleaner, a 5" cowl hood might work. Any advice is appreciated.

I have lots of pictures, but I cant attach pictures for some reason. I even looked around in the gallery section, but cannot find a browse or attach button. I can email some photos to you if you want.

Performance first impressions are a little embarassing. I just bought the car, and it appears to have the stock 165hp motor, but with headers. The motor runs good, but with 165hp, the performance is obviously pathetic. Stock exhaust too. Even the original steel intake and quadrajet with a few too many vacuum lines going into the intake.
So I put the blower on this motor so I could work out any ignition or carb bugs, but so far so good. I'd say I went from 16s to 14s in the quarter mile.....maybe. It makes cool sounds now though.
I am going to put a 290hp GM crate motor under the blower in October and hopefully it will have a bit more power. Real dual exhaust goes in next week.

Considered this a few times myself
Great Idea -- I'm pretty sure a 144 would fit nicely under my 81's twin turbo hi-rise hood. The RPM AIRGAP intake, holley TBI unit and a 4" air cleaner already sit nicely with 1-3" clearance in the tunnel.
The only thing stopping me (other than $) was I'm already skirting the limits of my TCI 700R4 (450 hp) with my rebuilt engine in normally aspirated form. Even the 144 with factory boost settings (7-8lbs) would put me over the trannys hp tolerance. It would probably work just fine if you didn't hit it hard often but what is the fun of that and that's a very expensive probably if you're wrong !!!!
Love to see some pics

What?
Also, you should've stopped by here first and asked what some good first mods are. You aren't going to see the full benefits of that blower (or any modification) without updating the engine as a system. Or at least, if you go step by step, go in an order that makes sense! Trying to stuff air through the stock engine is pointless. Careful of that bottom end giving up too.

Well, I have zero experience with blowers, and dont know anyone with any experience, so if I am going to accidently blow a motor up by over timing it or running it lean, I wanted to do it on this worn out motor that is getting replaced next month, than experimenting on a new motor.
Trying to stuff air through a stock motor doesnt seem too pointless from the way the car drives, I seemed to have picked up quite a bit of power. I know it is no where near as efficient as it could be, but I cant afford both a blower and a $4k longblock, so I am opting for the $1600 GM crate motor, WITH CAST PISTONS!!! GASP!!!!!
Ive gone down the typical path of headers, then intake, then cam, then heads, but I wanted to try a blower this time, and am not made of money. I have a feeling with my $1600 long block and $1800 blower, I will put down over 300hp at the wheels, and probably get many many miles out of the combo. And it will be more fun to drive than the too common hop up path I could buy as a package from Holley or Edelbrock....yawn.

I've never seen anyone fit a blower under a hood in the C3. The only one that I know of that will have a chance is a fuel injected twin screw charger from Whipple. You can get kits that allow the air to enter from the back.

Here are some pictures. I am still waiting for the hood to come in and am putting the new motor in this weekend. I'll report on how the new motor runs next week.

Thanks for the pictures. I received my 5" cowl hood from Glasstek today, I will post pictures tomorrow. The hood just barely touches the choke horn fully closed. I was thinking of making an air cleaner that sat behind the carb and came over the top of the carb, but I dont think there is enough clearance even for that. I will probably have to cut a hole. I am still trying to figure out how I could contain it all completely under the hood. The 5" cowl hood is really tall, I am going to have to raise my seats by a few inches to be comfortable.
The 142 is about 1" shorter than the 177. I now wish I would have ordered a 142, I could probably make an air cleaner work with that.
Small world, I have a Hayabusa too. I would never think there would be two people on the planet both with blown C3s and Hayabusas.

First C3 General Poster!
I find this very interesting....I doubt I could make a blower work on a 427 though, its already tall *** as it is, I wouldnt want more than 5" of height, it wouldnt be practical to drive around in downtown traffic if you cant see out the damned front.
Good luck with the project though.

That's funny! I can't imagine anyone with a blown car not owning one
What color to do you have? Ever go to hayabusa.org? Post a pic of both! Take care.
