Help, my 71 kept stalling this morning
The last day before insurance comes off for the winter, I thought I would drive it to work. I didn't even make it to the highway, up my street and it stalled. I started it up, rev a little, drive a few hundred feet and it would stall again. Finally made it home after 1/2 hour of this crap.
What could it be, fuel filter, pump or ?????
Has this happened to you guys before, where do I start.
Thanks

I was already late for work, I just put it in the garage and left for work, all pissed off. I have a busy few days here at work, so I will need help and advise in trying to find the problem. So, I'll start with the choke?
Also, was going to go to CTC and get a fuel filter for starters.

Thanks again for the advise.........Here's what happened tonight.
I made it home from work at a decent time, and head straight for the garage. I read a thread mg62 started earlier and started to examine the choke, after a while everything seems fine.
What next.
I neighbour walking his dog who lives around the corner once said he used to own/work on vettes, he was a mechanic. I decide to walk over and mention I think my choke is stuck, not really knowing what I was talking about. He said he would be right over.
He comes over and determines the choke is fine, he says to me "let me adjust your carb to specs" he grabs a screwdriver and gets to work. I was in heaven, I offered him a beer, he doesn't drink. man I must be blessed. he did it all for free. We take it for a drive and it runs better than ever before.
Later I took it for a fillup and added the stabilizer, everything seems ok, I took it on the highway, floored it, very good response, no more hesitation, but who knows what it will be like in Spring.
He also said one Saturday morning he will come by and change my fuel filter for me, wow, nice neighbour.
Tonight I will sleep well, Gotta go drink the beer he didn't want along with a few more.
Cheers.

You didn't mention what kind of carb you are running, but I was wondering if it was the float stuck or something like that. Did he take the float bowls off of the carb and clean them out. Some of these old cars will get trash under the seat of the float needle and fuel will fill the front bowl and make it a miserable mess to try and drive.

Its a Q-jet 7041212 (learned that today)
He said the carb was clean, as it was rebuilt a few years ago.
He said maybe a dirt particle could have caused the problem.
He turned the screws on the front of the carb until it sounded right.

Gotta love a neighbor that will come over and work on your car for free. Congrats and hope you got to enjoy some of the day anyway.

Dang! Where do you live? Any houses for sale? How about if I drive over there and you say I'm like visiting family? What beer does he like?
Seriously...vettes start getting depressed when they feel winter coming on. I always adjust my choke when the seasons change...it's just one of the many rituals I perform along with my oil changes.
