Is It As Bad As It Looks? POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE REPLACEMENT
My pos. cable looks pretty baked. It's one item I've never changed on my '73. Looks like a pain! Car is an automatic.

I just replaced the + battery cable on my 69 with 4 speed and it was not fun. With an automatic I am not sure you would be able to get to all of the clamps that hold the cable to the underside of the tunnel. It was pretty tight with the 4 speed. Another area that will cause grief is getting the new grommet in the battery box. I had to persuade it with a few magic words but finally got it to go in after I used a liberal amount of silicon wire pulling lubricant. The job would have been much easier if the car was on a lift or at least higher than my jack stands would go.

I will agree with this statement whole heartedly. This is when the cable is most exposed. I am sure you have already looked at the cable by the title of your post.

I just added a remote solenoid to my 71 auto , I needed a cable approx 2' longer than stock , finally found some 4 gauge at a stereo shop , and re routed the cable , you will not be able to reach all of the orig clips

Be Patient
I had a battery cable rub against the driveshaft and actually welded itself to the driveshaft. Luckily i was in the car in the garage when it happened, and quickly got a pair of cutting pliers and cut the wire before the car caught fire. It actually melted the negative battery terminal.
Be careful and make sure all of the clamps are in place, especially around the drive shaft. I found that dropping the driveshaft made the job much easier.
