Cool shots. I love going to the drags. Never been to an IHRA event. I was amazed the first time we went to an NHRA big boy event. Those top fuel cars go off like a bomb.

Very cool. I like the blue and white C2. Great shots, thanks for sharing.
Eddie 70, you're not kidding. You haven't seen (or felt) horsepower until you've been to an NHRA national event and watched the Top Fuel cars. It is simply awesome.

I really prefer that Black C1;
those Top-Sportsman/ Pro-Mod C2s are almost becoming 'routine'...
Was at June's Pontiac Excitement Nationals in Columbus, Oh., but it rained, and NHRA rushed-thru 2 sessions of PS/FC/TF, and hardly any Sportsman-class cars ran.
I wanted to get some pix of Vettes running Stock/Super Stock...

Nice pics, but ony one was born a Corvette (c1), teh others born as drag cars...still, very nice pics and regardless how they were born, it's nice to see the drag cars use the Corvette image...

Yes the C2 is a very popular Pro Mod car but some of the paint jobs are unbelievable.
Couple more
This was the winning Top Fuel Dragster they burnt a few pistons in the semifinal and I watched them tear the motor down and put in 8 new pistons in 45 minutes. THe rods on these monster are at least 3 inches thick truly some trick stuff here. One word of caution, never stand near the headers of a top fuel car when they start it up

I'm comming home from the big sandbox in the Middle East in 6 days. I'm going to the NHRA drags in Memphis on the 22nd leaving my best friend's wedding and driving all through the night to get there. If you havn't gone to one of these drags you really don't know what you're missing. It's 1000% bigger then your average weekend drags. These machines put out eight to nine thousand hp. Each fuel injector squirts out a little more fuel then the average gas station fuel pump on full. They go 0 to 100 mph in one second and finnish at about 320 mph. Sometimes the drivers can no longer participate because after driving for years their retnas (sp?) start to detach from their eyes from all of the g-forces.
Coupe more facts:
They don't run engine coolent
They only have a one gear transmission
They're so loud your eyeballs shake and vision becomes a little blurry even from the stands.

Of our group, mostly guys with 11-to-13-second cars, I was the only person who'd seen Fuel cars in-person before, and I told them in-advance:
"These things are LOUD, and FAST!!!" ,
and, as-usual, I took my video-camcorder.
A few weeks later, our weekly races were rained-out, and we gathered at one guys house to watch my video from the weekend.
Immediately after the first pair of Top Fuelers went down-track, you could clearly hear my buddy, standing next to me, muttering on the tape:
" Now I know how woefully f***ing pitifully slow we REALLY are..."

with two 44-amp magnetos on EACH car, I can remember when ESPN couldn't take pictures from the starting-line without their cameras getting screwed-up.
Current camera technology allows this now.....
