Default Largest wheel/tire set up without and mods 1968 C3

I am sure this has been covered, but a search did not reveal it. Looking at a 68 C3 and was wondering would 17x8 front and 17x9.5 rear wheel fit a stock 68 without mods, spacers, etc. Or what is the largest size you can go with wheel and tires on this car?

I had 17x 8 rims with 235/55/17 on them. I would get a slight rub at full lock on the front. No issues at the rear. THe only real issue was with a GM 8 inch steel rim being within a 1/8th inch f hitting the parking brake stud holding the cable. the 68 was designed with 7 inch rims

My '68 roadster is wearing 18x10's with 275 tires on all 4 corners. Had to relocate the parking brake brackets, but otherwise they fit well with no rubbing! 😁

Loaded question as there are a thousand possible combinations given the backspace of the wheel. With a 5" backspace you will get an 18x9" on the rear but not a 9.5 or 10"......
I have 18x9" on the rear of my 72' and had to move the park brake bracket although a bunch here swear it doesn't have to be done......it is a 5" backspace but I put a 1/4" spacer on the rear for extra clearance, a better look, and to give the Addco rear sway bar more room.
You will have to do your homework on this one......

I have 17x7 with 225/55/17 on my 1968. The rims had 4" of backspace and required a 1" spacer to clear the calipers. They look very narrow on the car, and I've got TONS of room between the tire and the frame in the front, and the tire and the swing arms in the rear.

It's all a matter of correct back space.

Consider a nice set of wheel flares

Weeeeeeeeeee.........what a question, not condemning you but you have to dig just a wee bit further...our forum is filled with the options....I'm going with a staggered approach because I don't want my front wheels to look out-of-place with my back wheels... I have chosen a 17x8x8 for the front and a 18x9.5 for the rear. If you choose a 10"rear wheel for the rear you will have to move the E-brake mount..but your possibilities lie in what you are willing to do to accommodate your choices. The dimensions I have offered are a very good starting point. Good luck..

Be aware that you may get responses from folks that do not own a 68 and dont realize the rear fender isnt flared as much as later models

Where is the issue? I was going to put the N90 wheels from my 1980 on my 68 with some new rubber. I don't really like these 17's that came on the car.

I have 18x10 in the rear 5.5 back space no rub on my 69. I am NOT running stock arms tho. If you don't run stock arms you get a bit more space. No flares or body mods to fit them

I was not aware there is any difference in wheel well size from 68-82. My wheel wells measure just over 11 inches on my 69. The only difference I have seen is the area where rock chips can hit on post 1970 cars.

Agreed - I have same size on rear - with 285/40/18 but no spacer - will probably go 275/40/18 next time......
