The car started, shut off, and ran fine untill today when i was driving it and when i shut it off the RPMS droped to 0 then it sputtered at 200 for a second and then turned off. What could be causing this??? thanks

Ignition timing too far advanced is the most likely culprit.

Bad gas could be a problem too.

This is called dieseling. If you want to avoid embarrassment, shut it off while the engine is under load until you get it fixed.

Pacin' Cal has it right.

Also an idle set to high can cause run on as well (of course, this could be related to the advanced timing).

The problem is you have something still burning in your cylinders when you shut off the engine, this could also be related to some sharp edges in your combustion chamber, high running temperatures, etc.

might not be using enough octane in your gas too.

THanks for the tips guys. Ill check the advance tomorrow and next tank ill put in higher octane. I also lowered the idle. For some reason today it bumped up to 1000-1100.

Mine did that to. I built a new engine and putting it in there. Problem solved.
