Default '77 auto trans question

I just started to notice that rpms seem higher at all speeds. I'm guessing that the trans is slipping some..am I correct? And also when I nail it the tach goes way over fast...

.....for example..when I used to go 40mph the tach would read around 2000...now at 40mph it reads over 2500...sounds like a slipping transmission to me...?!?

Can the bands be adjusted or does it need a rebuild and what would be an average cost to rebuild the transmission...
Thanks for your help.....

Oh yea also I've had the vette since 1982 and it now has 125,000 original miles on it...runs perfect otherwise...

I'm sure it can be adjusted, but a good light performance rebuild on a TH350 is only a couple hundred bucks.

Thanks for the reply...I have been quoted from several shops between $500-$750...and chevy dealerships even more...so thats why I was wondering...If you say it can be adjusted why would I want to have it rebuilt?...

Any other opinions would be appreciated...I know there are more guys here with C3's that have good knowledge of what I need help with...Thanks again...

Default Band adjustment? NO

That term was forgotten about in the sixties or early seventies and the last transmission that I know of that offered band adjustments was the Ford C4 used in Mustangs and Fairlanes.

The GM trans should not slip. It is not adjustable. Is it full of fluid? Have you ever serviced it since you had the car, all these years?

Yes and yes...I have changed oil every 2500 miles with a filter and have changed trans fluid and filter 4 times since I bought it in 1982 with 50,000 miles on the clock, so it has not been neglected in any way...
So I guess I just need a rebuild with new clutches and gaskets...surprised that no one else had an opinion...

Is your tach accurate? When it goes "way over" do you hear the corresponding engine revs?

This would be a GOOD time to put an overdrive transmission in there!

Yes it has always been accurate and is still accurate...it flies over to 6-7000 rpm and the engine sounds like it also...but it goes there way too fast..so that to me means the trans is slipping...

Geez, I can get a mild performance TH350 rebuilt for $125. It's not a shop, just a guy that does it himself in his garage, but I wouldn't expect a shop to be charging that much more.
