Speed Direct Sharkbite coil-overs part 6
Not to drag this out but...... carry off of topic http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zero...=854919&page=1
First of all Mike if you have not doubled up your shock mount nuts better do it damn quick!! I torqued mine and today found three of four a little over hand tight!! I used lock washers and nuts on the bottom side. I attempted to see if Twin Turbo was right that the shock body was bottoming out on the underside of the upper A-arm and sure as hell it was. Take a look at the 1st pic and note the top of the shock from the sticker then look at pic 2.
In pics 2,3 the front of the car is jacked up and the wheel is jacked up just half way of normal travel and already the shock is jammed up against the top A-arm, never mind a serious pothole. There is also some playdo stuck on top and it came out smooshed flat.
Here is completely unsprung
I tried everything from bottom to top thread and everything inbetween, bottom thread leaves shock banging top threads leave the front end 10 feet in the air and still getting the clunk clunk noise so after 3 hours of jacking/ resetting/ driving (to resettle springs) I came up with 6 threads up = 27.2" left and 27.4" right. No binding of shock but the continual clunk clunk clunk of the springs (tight as hell but still clunking
I've decided to donate the Sharkbite kit to some of our trainee pilots who leave in August to go to a live ordnance training exercise. Lets see how the sharbites work with a 500 pounder. Photos to come
I want to reinstall my stock springs with Blistein shocks
I'll cut 3/4 to 1 coil off to get 27-27.5" and leave it at that. Can these shocks be sandblasted and powdercoated?
Three plus months/ 200 hours wasted. :mad

Yeah the shocks can be sandblasted, shot blasted, what ever you want, nothing will hurt them. I'm not sure about the durability of the powder coating on the shot since its always moving, and changing shape.

redvetracer we finally agree on something.
I would be looking for a refund if they don't work. They are not cheap and you seem to have given it a fair try.

After 3 months and 200 hours of work I would do EVERYTHING in my power to make them pay (one way or another/ CF supporting vendor or not) for my time and aggravation..... ...redvetracr

I just e-mailed Mike. He was real nice to me so it's only fair to give him a response time.

closer in shot of the original springs
Now why would you want to take and then actually post a closer in shot of these??????
David you are the most camera happy person I have ever met.....
P.S. I liked the first picture better, I can look through your junk that you have piled around when I enlarge it...

Re: Speed Direct Sharkbite coil-overs part 6 (Desertdawg)
You can shell them over to me The 2 rubbers top mounts can be replaced with a rod eye end which would make them the proper coil over shock to run in the front or rear. It's jsut their semi coil over stuff and the mounting system that's junk (mostly the mounting system)
Just telling you to cut coils was a real stupid thing to do, the springs are wrecked now, they can't be reused.

Re: Speed Direct Sharkbite coil-overs part 6 (Cali,68,L-79)
Sounds like you should have done this in the beginning and not spent all this time on adjusting and cutting coils, why dont you get the gymkahana springs from VBP, they lower the front by 1 inch and help improve handling and performance.

Re: Speed Direct Sharkbite coil-overs part 6 (killervette666)
I'm not willing to entertain spending any more time/ money to get proper springs for this setup as the shock's mounting has serious design flaws in itself. Better choice is to start fresh.

Keep in mind that the aftermarket springs like VBP are slightly shorter and thicker. The ride high shouldn't change much but they're A LOT easier to install!

Re: Speed Direct Sharkbite coil-overs part 6 (Cali,68,L-79)
Ok, it looks like I missed out on quite a bit of fun in the last couple of days. I just came across your two threads here, Cali. First off I would like to know when and whom did you talk to here. I handle nearly all of the tech questions and I haven't spoken with you in the last several months. There are plenty of opinions and misconceptions that have been given by others. If you would like to try and solve this problem please call me or e-mail me at 940 769-3804 or eric@speeddirect.com
You state that you are bottoming on the upper a-arm. That is impossible. If it is bottoming up there then it is on the upper part of the frame rail. What is your dimension from the bump stop (on the lower a-arm) to the bottom of the frame rail when the car is on the ground with the suspension settled? The stock bump stop will hit the frame before the shock bottoms on itself in full bump.
Please give us a chance to solve this problem by contacting me. Then we can let everyone know what the outcome is.
