I just spent 15 minute typing out a rely on how to do and when I went to post an error report came up and said shutting down. I just lost my reply.
I am heading out to the shop, I am ticked. I will post again about this later today'

Second, the GE 4537 is NOT a "plug ang play" replacement. What do I mean by that you ask ? well, the stock headlights all have alignment high spots on the back of the sealed beam, these align with slots in the metal holder. Well the 4537 is different in that the high spot is in the wrong place if you want to install the bulb with the proper orientation.

Proper orientation being this...the 4537 has a shield inside of the bulb that creates a blind sopt right above the bulb in a 180 degree circle. so the bulb should be installed with this shield pointing straight up. And the alignment high spots will not allow this in my 76.
So I did the dremel trick and cut out a new notch in the metal holder. When I say metal holder I DO NOT mean the crome ring you remove to remove the bulb...I mean the black metal holder behind the bulb. It is a quick job if you are good with a dremel and a cutoff disk.
I just installed and tested 4537's without orienting them. These lights (at least the Wagners I picked up) are listed as a spot, so I thought I'd take a chance and forgo the cutting. I didn't notice any blind spot. Maybe the GE and Wagner lights are different with the bulb shielding or it's placement, but I'll stick with getting away without any trimming of the bucket.

A little aiming adjustment and I'll be more than pleased!!

I noticed something interesting with my 4537's

When I did a test and fired'em up against my garage door I noticed that the beam hits the door not like a flood light would, not like a spot light would - a round small spot, but the light hits the door like a straight slot screw driver. I get a vertical line of bright light on my garage door. The line starts at the base of my door and goes up about 4 feet. I am calling this a slotted beam for lack of a better description.

So I looked at the inside of the beam and this is a result of the mirror in the back of the sealed beam and the outer lens is clear glass. So the beam I see on the garage door is actually the "spring" thing inside the beam that gets the volts..

With the beam installed with that shield pointing upwards (and the "spring" perpendicular to the ground) the slotted beam is perpendicular to the ground. As I would expect.
I am wondering if this is best or if a 90 turn, which would put the slotted beam horizontal, would be better ?

Has anybody noticed this.

Make sure the "GE" on the bulb is level & not at a 90deg angle or upside down

I have some headlights I found on Ebay. They are diamond-cut Euro headlights. You can see them on my cardomain page. They are brighter than stock and look really good!
