You can pop them out with a screw driver and like someone else said, buy new ones.
The grommets are abuot $2.50 ea. and the emblem is only $6.50 from Eckler's. [IMG][/IMG]

I ended up having to break out the rubber grommets. They were way to hardened to pop out. I've started to lightly polish the valve covers, a bit brighter than original but it gets rid of all the oxidation. Also, I always wondered why there were no silver emblems like mine on valve covers. I always saw black emblems. Seems the black wore out long before the red and white did on my emblem.

Thanks for all the help.

Noblejr,
I haven't time to try and figure out how to post a pic. I tried but it didn't seem to work. If you email me I can email it to you. I just noticed you're in Atlanta. The polishing shop I mentioned is in Lilburn just off Lawrenceville Hwy (Rt 29). $45-75 is pretty reasonable if you want to try it. The Last Detail (Corvette Parts) just inside I285 on I85 is an easy place to buy the rubber and emblem. They're reasonable and you don't have to wait on shipping. Best Metal Polishing (770) 921-7445. They've always got a set of new valve covers in their showroom so you can look and see what yours should look like.

My last post was confusing. The Last Detail is the place with the new valve covers. They're real friendly and knowledgeable. They have a nice catalog and either have anything you want or can get it. They also have a bunch of really nice Corvettes of all vintages for sale.

I meant to say DO NOT use sand paper or steel/bronze pads! :banghead:
I started with 80 - sandpaper and worked my way up to 400. Then used the white polish with a buffing wheel. The oxidation was DEEP. I don't see any other way of doing it without sandpaper.

I thought about polishing but my covers seemed quite porous...took it to a local shop that does alot of plating for the local rod community - got these back a week later.

Take my word for it, the pictures do not do these covers the least bit of justice.
