Re: Firestone Indy Tires.....any good? (gh78)
i worked at firestone when i bought mine, so i got a real good deal all 4 mounted balanced for 200.00 thou i was the one mounting and balancing. i have to say that i expected more out of them, the sidewalls are weak and flex to easy so its not a good tire for handling, but they do seem to keep me from hydroplaning pretty good. and the traction on a hole shot is ok. i recomend that you take them back- they have a 30 money back guarenty and get the tire i whish i did the kohmo exta slx i think it was called. that is if you have 255 60 15 hope this helps :leaving:

I have had Dunlop GT Qualifiers, which I never want to see again.
BFG Radial T/A, which I thought were quite good.
Then I recently got the Firestone Indy 500's. Best tire yet. I love them. Check out the Tire Rack site and you can see how people rate them. They are rated best in category. Go here: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/surveyresults/pas.jsp

I'm getting a set for my 68 FB, and if I like them, I'll probably replace the old Radial T/A's on my vette with a set. I was going to get T/A's for the Firebird until I read the tirerack reviews. Joe

I have them on my 1994 Ford Ranger Pickup
(they don't make many truck tires for 14" rims anymore and I got a good deal on them).

I'm still deciding, but my poll (BFG TA versus INDY 500) is 10 to 3 in favor of the Firehawk INDY500.

Re: Firestone Indy Tires.....any good? (NHvette)
the only tires ive ever lost control with is BFG (twice) and have the scars to prove it. i will never buy a set of BFG's again. did you look up those kumo's i told you about. there a sport truck tire, but there spose to be better than the indys. let us know what ones you went with. :skep:

I am looking into the Kumo SUV tires, they are H rated - the T/A's in anything but perfectly dry road conditions are just plain scarey.

You guys do know that Firestone makes but doesn't advertise a police vehicle tire that is actually a hi-performance tire and comes in 15" sizes for our cars Check out PV40 and PV41. Those will be my next set. Right now I have Firestone SS 20's which were made before the Indy. I like them ok but could be better
