Do you know how many of those were turned into pencil holders? I probably did that to a few myself.

Wouldn't be surprised if he gets it either. With many buyers out there that have the bucks (and not afraid to spend it) someone will bid. Just watch.

Nah, it don't work that way. The high prices go for hard to find parts, most especially hard to find NOS parts, but rarity is the key. For example, you can get an unrebuilt correct numbers carb off ebay for a '69 350/300 for well under $50 (I tracked a few that went for under $30). But an unrebuilt carb for the base L-36 big block '69 427/390 generally goes on ebay for $500 or more. What the difference between the two carbs? Other than different jetting, two things: the number stamped on it & how hard it is to get one.

I got to admit, I don't really understand all the shock and awe over prices paid for these parts. These are collector's cars, so rarity rules. Hell, people pay hundreds of dollars for rare barbie dolls an GI Joes. A few hundred for the part that caps off your concourse restoration makes a helluva lot more sense to me than that.

JB,
It does not make sense to me for a normal service, tune-up part. These parts go away after about 10,000 miles. Do you could to a cruise day and bring attention to your $600 distributor cap? That would not be the highlight of my evening!

Ebay is an auction forum...people are able to pay or not pay whatever they feel like. If you don't agree on a price don't bid on it.

You the seller? Seem to be taking this sort of hard. Paul's just commenting on how ridiculous the asking price is, as is his freedom of speech. I see no problems with his post.

If I had money falling out of my _____, I wouldn't quibble about prices either. Yes the prices are high, but as stated above, some of these parts ARE extremely rare. Here's a for instance. I saw the $1100 ebay '73-76 NOS radiator. I drooled over it, and if I wasn't still reeling from my property tax increases, I would have THOUGHT about it! I had my radiator re-cored, looked great, but now the seams are too wide for the retaining cushions! All for $300! I know it seems laughable that people pay these prices, but if YOU had the parts, I'm sure you wouldn't gripe so much! If it makes someone happy.... :hurray:

I don't see these parts prices getting any lower. If you think about the value of some of these cars and what the certifications can bring, these parts are but a drop in the bucket. If you needed this part as the final piece to a 100 point NCRS car then its well worth it There is no other place to get them.

Okay well if these prices are flying high then why are the chrome bumper years still holding at 12-20K average. i mean their chocked full of these "rare parts" right?

Chock full of "good condition" rare parts and a whole lot of replacement parts. These high ticket parts are for NOS parts N is for NEW. Also these parts are going on trailer queens (no offense intended) , not drivers. Take a look at a '73 engine compartment. Notice the yellowed overflow tank! 99% of them are yellowed. They yellowed rather quickly, I paid $100 for a NOS BONE WHITE one. Pretty scarce, a one year item! I still think I stole it at that price! My point is the yellowed one that is on my car, will be just that, a used one. My new one will be a judging item only. :seeya
