Selling the C3, bought a C5

Re: Selling the C3, bought a C5 (Van Steel)
I went about this all wrong...I sold my C3 for funds to buy a C5...after three years of looking I bought another C3!
I should have bought a C5 and then tired to sell my C3... "Honey, I don't know why no one wants to buy my C3; guess we will have to keep both!"
I also sold my first C3 because all I did was work on it. My "new" one has less than 23K on it....I get to drive this one!
Good luck selling your C3. Enjoy the C5.

Hehe, yes, this is a good way to do it and ensures CVO - constant vette ownership. :)
You know, I bought the '78 for two reasons.
The first was the obvious one... I wanted a vette.
The second was so that I could learn how a car really works and how to work on a car. Up until 3 years ago, an engine compartment looked like an alien world to me.
But now, I can name every little piece and part on the car and know what it does... (at least on that car) The assembly manual and the service manual made for some good reading.
So, I enjoyed working on the car. But after a couple of years of constant work, the itch to drive gets to be too much.
And I just know that after a few months of driving the C5 around, I'm going to be getting my hands in there and adding things. I'm looking forward to learning about the whole LS1 setup.
Hopefully, I don't break it. :jester

Marc, don't give in man. Have both.......................
BELIEVE ME... if I had the room, I would!
But alas, no garage. Only a carport for one vette.

Re: Selling the C3, bought a C5 (verskel)
I started out with a Brand New C5 ordered to my spec, the minute I could afford it. (I am 31 but my wife tells me I act 80) It is my "weekend car" and it is amazing in handling, torque, power, comfort, BUT I am selling it to buy a C3 - Why??
Because I am sick of seeing C5s everywhere I look. To me, this has taken away from the aura/mistique of owning a Corvette. They are putting Carbon fiber on them, making them look ricey, etc. - They are just not classic enough for my personal taste any longer.
Believe me - I love driving it and if I was rich, or had a 3 car garage, I'd keep it, but thinking about a shiny restored Chrome Bumper C3 in my garage, being able to work on it, etc. has been keeping me up at night - so that's the direction Im going in!
Plus, I can always buy a used C5 or C6 for $20K down the road :)
Marc - Enjoy your C5 (you will trust me) but I hope you don't end up feeling like I did!!!

I find your post fascinating as it touches on Corvette ownership and personal priorities. Do you go up a generation up from C3 or back? That is when you start from a C3 with a limited budget. I put a lot of thought into that about a year ago and went back to a C2. But I must say that I saw some C5s at Carlisle last August at reasonable prices that gave me pause to reconsider my decision. But in the end I will live with what I have, despite its need for constant maintenance.
I enjoyed your post. Thanks for being honest!

I do have to agree with you. That was the one thing nagging in my mind the whole time. But then I realized that at least the color combination I got is relatively rare.
Still, nothing will ever match the curves of a C3.
I will miss the '78, but I'm glad to be driving and waving now.
