Default Oil in water.....Why????

........just looking for some reasons as to why I have oil in the water (a tablespoon of white foam in the expansion tank) after less than 100 miles on a rebuilt 350.....

....the engine seems to be getting hot very fast. It will not hold at idle and revs poorly....there's some backfiring at the carb.....and it sounds like I've lost compression in one of the cylinders.....

.....if it's the head gasket, what would have caused it to blow?????

.......there has been extensive machining to the block (milled 50 thou, bored 60 thou), so I'm wondering if the cylinder wall has cracked????

Any clues??????

Edit: There's no sign of water on the dipstick........

Cracked block, cracked head, leaking intake or head gaskets. If it's freshly rebuilt, perhaps it's just a bad gasket or a gasket not properly sealed/installed at installation. However it is entirely possible that due to the extensive machining to the block that this has stressed it too much and you have indeed cracked a cylinder or some other area.

I'm sorry to hear of your challenges and hope the resolution is simply a gasket or similar.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the sympathy......the real bugger is I was going to take it to a car show tomorrow.....now I don't have an excuse for not mowing the lawn :)

.......don't think it's the heads 'cause they're brand new Darts....if so I'll be leaning heavily on a refund :yesnod: .......

Do you think a bad intake or head gasket would cause it to run so badly????

Thanks to you and wackedvette for your responses

I sure as hell wouldn't be running it at all with a diagnosis like that! Refund sounds good..tow it back to whoever did the work and let em tear it down for you. This way you don't get the blame for doing further damage to thier PHOPAW..and them saying you abused the already damage motor. Sorry, hope it's back on the road soon!
