Need electrical troubleshooting help on the '69
My lighter, clock and courtesy lights are all out. I replaced the fuse, and still nothing.
I don't have a wiring diagram...I did notice a brown and yellow wire combo just dangling near the fuse box, but I'm not sure where they were clipped from (could be stock radio harness, stock radio is long gone.)
Any ideas of where I should start?
Thanks,
Sam

Just saw your post. I'll check my stuff and get back to you. Did they work and just quit, or is this one of those "I'll get to it someday" things? My car is at a different location, so I can't climb in to check it out. Should be a real simple fix.

I sent an email with a drawing to your forum address
I made a simplified diagram last year when troubleshooting my 68.

- The items on this fuse never worked (or hadn't since I got the car.)
- I checked power at both sides of the fuse, and when connecting a lead to a bolt at the steering column and touching the posts, the test light comes on. So we have a ground problem?
- Where should I check for ground issue or maybe there's something else I'm missing?

It's fine...there's power on both sides of the fuse.
I guess the next question to answer is if the connection where the orange wires plug into the fuse box is not corroded or something. Of course, there's always the possibility that someone cut the wires on accident putting in the stereo.
What a pain!

Get yourself a good wiring diagram, sounds like an earth problem,it will tell you where the earthing points are.I think the one you are looking for is up near the gauge cluster.

Hello,
According to my 68 AIM all the above mentioned are orange 20awg that tie to a orange 16awg that goes back to the fuse block. If your console lamps light up that would tell me that the bezel is grounded. If not, ground properly.
The problem might be in the connection point of the orange 20awg's and the 16awg.

Where do the 20 and 16 gauge wires meet? (under the dash? near the fuse block? behind the center console?) My dash and gauge lights do work.
Thanks for the help!
