Balancing your brake rotors, dialup beware

About how much does that much lead weigh? Or rather, how much material do you think you removed? Have you noticed any vibrations at high speed? Are you going to balance your hubs too or is the weight insignificant compared to the rest? Just how fast do you plan on going? :D

looks like a fun project
but folks should NOT get the impression that removing mass from a rotor is good thing. more mass allows for more energy to be converted.

I think we should have a special section at the corvettefaq.com dedicated just to your great articles! :yesnod:

that looks like a much better way of doing it than hammeing those little tubes in the vanes, those tubes like to come out and fly away.

Norval I like that lathe. Is that about a 15" geared head? That what I need to true rear spindles and rotors.
Guys, many have asked how the shops remove runout with new or used rotors aftere new bearigns are installed. Norvals picture shows it, only instead of the fixture the spindle is mounted in the lathe with the rotor rivited or bolted on.Mount an indicator against the rotor and slowly spin by hand to check the runout.

Not having enough mass to store the energy is only a problem if the energy isn't vented away fast enough

your an idiot :leaving:
edit:
that was a bit harsh.
but your rotors are VERY unsafe now and not to mention- they stop worse and IMHO look silly.
performance and safety just took a nose dive.

hmm, you're not too smart are you? If you'd read, he's had the same rotors for 10 (!!) years, they've been drilled for quite a while too. The person you're calling an idiot has a huge amount of fabrication and engineering experience. What do you have?
