Thinking in selling my '68....
A friend just e-mailed me a link to a '69 Vert for sale for a great price.. The car has a solid axle (Ford 9 inch - not narrowed) and a 545 HP 502 Big Block.. I could get the car for $25k...
• Year 1969
• Make Chevrolet
• Model Corvette Convertible
• Description New 502 Crate motor, Chevy alum. heads, roller rockers, MSD, HP fuel and water pump, 545 HP, with 9" rear, coil overs and ladder bars. Beautiful and way fast!
• Price $25,000
Here's a pic
With the solid axle - I could mod the car to run 9's without ever worrying about breaking the rear end.. Installing a Ford 9 inch in my car would cost over $9k.. so it would be a better option just to sell mine and get that car..
What do you guys think??

$9000 to install a 9inch Ford? That seems quite pricey. I think you could do much better than that, besides $25,000 seems like alot of money for a modified Vette. Have you considered going with the Tom's 12 bolt?

Oh God not this again. You have 50K in the 68, what you think you could get for it? (read lose your butt in the deal). My .02 is keep the 68 and find a way to get the 69.

Nice looking vette. Tuff decision .You have so much time and money in your current vette. But sometimes you just want something new.

I don't want to go with the 12-bolt setup.. It'll still be IRS with 12-bolt internals.. I want a Ford 9 inch.. I'm planning on running high 9's or low 10's with my next car.. and I need the strongest possible rear... I don't want to go to the track with fear to break parts... I have too much money in my Vette and don't want to spend any more... I could probably get $25k for my '68 (even though I have over $55k into it) and get that solid axle car for the same price..

The ONLY solid axel Vette I'd own is a Pre-'63, but that's me. You can pick up a nice 9" Ford for less than $1,000 here. No way can I see $8,000 labor. :nonod:
This is a no brainer for me, I'd keep the '68. :yesnod:

If you want a car just for the strip I would say yes. But that car is not for the street.

I say go for it, sell yours and replace it with this one. Sounds like you will have what you want with no new out of pocket money spent. As nice as your car is..................... sooner or later its time for something new.

OK, maybe I can buy it, but you have to help me explain to my wife why her new 68 firebird convertible looks an awful lot like a corvette!
