Is there a way to fix minor scratches in lenses?
The center guage cluster in my car has some spots that look like water spots, but when I clean them, they do not go away. They seem to have taken the luster off of the lense. I have them out of the bezel, so I know it is not just on the inside where I can't get to it.
Is there a product that will take the scratches off of these types of lenses? I saw an infomercial over the weekend about some product that fixes reading glasses, but I am skeptical.
Any suggestions ... or just buy new ones?
Thanks
Jeremy

I have had good luck with Meguiars Plastic Cleaner and Polish # 10 & #17 http://www.superiorcarcare.net/megplascar.html

3-M Plastic Polish or Novus Plastic Polish will do the trick.....works great on tail light lenses as well....

Since you have them out, why not just replace them with new?

I will have to second the Novus plastic polishes. They work very well. I believe they come in three different strengths depending how deep your scratches are. As I recall they are numbered 1 through 3. I can't recall off the top of my head which way the numbering designation goes, I.E. 3 being the most potent or vice versa. Anyway, I did my speedometer/tachometer lens and was very pleased with the results. Works much better than trying to do anything with a glass type cleaner.

Is there any place special I have to go to get Novus Plastic Polish or just an automotive store?
Thanks for the suggestions!

never tried the Novus, but you won't be disappointed w/the 3M--did my gauge clusters and tail lights--the stuff is great and available about everywhere

I haven't tried the Novus or the 3M, I'm sure they are great products. The Meguairs worked good for me, did wonders for the plexiglass windshield on my boat as well.

i've used "mother's" aluminum polish on tail lenses. makes them look new. try it on an inconspicuous area first.

I think my mom got it at a place that sells plastics and plexiglass. I always borrow hers when I need some so I have never actually purchased it. By the way I used some today and the 3 is for heavy scratches with 1 being a spray mist for very light damage. Sorry I can't be mre specific. Others use it, so it out there. I would start with Home Depot, Lowes, etc.

I bought a new lens from The Last Detail last year. I am going to buy new speakers this spring for my 'vette. Probably will replace the lens when I install my cd player and speakers.

home grown variety, 1 part rubbing compound to 4 parts liquid wax such as carnuba meguiars. Once the cloudiness is gone follow up with regular wax using circles. Worked for me 10 years and going.
