Hate it when this happens
My nephew left for work this morning in his matching numbers 1980 L-82.
It won't match anymore.
It has a slight problem.
This is what came out of the oil pan. check out the piece of cam shaft in the middle of the photo.
This is what tore the hole in the oil pan
Here is the other piston rod, or what's left of it.
Look at the huge chunks it took out of the cylinder wall.
Looks like a new engine is in his furure.

If the matching numbers mean that much he can have the motor re sleeved. Or the hell with it and put in a 383 or 454 :yesnod: .

I wish there was a juicey story to go along with it. He was just driving to work, doing about 75 on I-10 . When there was a loud boom and enough smoke to look like a space shuttle taking off.
The mileage showed 79,000 and I'm more inclined to think 279,000 without ever being rebuilt. It smoked quite a bit when you punched it, and it ate lots of oil. He also drives it like he stole it and recently he had been driving it long distance quite often. I think he forgot to check the oil for too long of a time, and boom crunch.
A friend of his said he had a 1992 454 truck engine he could have for @ $500 he is thinking real hard about it.
I told him if the numbers no longer match you might as well make it a big block '80. Take the L-82 off the sides and put a killer red 454 badge on it.
