Default Heres the 68 L88

Box stock L88 "IT" 427/430 1968 Vette, 4.10 gear. This car ran the 11.20`s at 120+ MPH in 1968 and 69. Setting since 1973 with 25,000 miles. Pulled the engine and went completely through it. After that many miles is WAS ready. The timing chain was actually hanging. Balanced and blue printed plus a .030 overbore was necessary. 12.5 + 30 pistons and a new L88 cam with the necessary timing parts and bearings were installed. New copper shim gaskets for the heads and bolted back together. Heres the catch why the engine is not back in the car and has been setting so long. If you recall, thats when the Jews kicked the s--- out of the Arabs and gas prices went crazy even if you could get the stuff. This is the only car that I actually watched the guage move as it was driven at freeway and over speeds. At 7-8 miles per gallon I never put it back together. I know, I think I`ll start this project tomorrow. :D If tomorrow ever comes.  http://www.nitroalley.net/images/L882003.JPG

This was suppost to be in the L88 1/4 mile times. I screwed up.

Hi
Wow, do you say you got a 68 L88 just sitting in your garage for years ?
Problem today is, that a L88 can't be driven anymore as they are worse far too much to be lost on the road. :mad
I don't know any L88 owner over here in Europe. Wonder if any made it over the pool.
Good luck. Gunther :seeya

Gunther,
The ex Tony Delorenzo/Curt Wetzel Tuxedo black (now yellow) L-88 car is in Switzerland, the original motor is long gone but the car is the real deal. ...redvetracr

It`s really not much of a project, is all there. All that needs to be done is install the L88 and drive train. :D The model in the box on the hood is of a 1962 FI Vette :)

Send the car my way, I'll wash it for you and take it for a spin or two around the block to make sure the engine drives OK once you've put it back in. :D

Hi
Hmm, a L88 without an engine is like a fish without a bicycle !

Thanks for the update.

See you. Gunther

Copper gaskets on a L-88? I thought you can't use copper gaskets on aluminum heads. Aluminum and copper are dissimilar metals and will corrode via electrolosis.

Copper shim head gaskets are correct! Very hard to find and also now expensive. I believe McCord Gasket Company may still have them available.

I did an internet search and apparently McCord Gasket is no more. I found their name on an environmental hazard site which may explain why they went out of business. There was also a number of lawsuits relating to medical expenses that showed up on the search. That's a shame because I'm looking for a thin copper head gasket myself. If you find one please let me know.
