5 & 6-speed guys - did you cut the trans crossmember?
Did you make your cross-member removable so that the trans can be removed with the motor in place. Obviously people with automatic trans frames that are already bolt-in need not reply.
Thanks.

With the Kiesler 5 speed there is no cutting needed. I installed mine with the motor in place and not one cut was made.
The Keisler 6 speed I cannot answer for sure, but I do know some mods are required to be made to your car to install it.

I'm looking at doing a T56. Anyone have experience with that? I'm thinking not cutting and then dealing with the consequences when they arise. ( :smash: on wood)
SmokedTires: Where did that X-member come from? Is it tubular?

Yes it's tubular, from Bowtie Overdrives. I used it with my Tremec TKO, though I had to modify it some to work ;) .

Tremec TKO with cut crossmember...its not required the kiesler kit of course metions that...Signguy is the first one to give even an inkling of how its done.
The bellhousing is removed - pushed over the input shaft lean the tranny up in place and fit both tranny and bellhousing at once. Not impossible but probably not all that easy either.
IMO, this is fine if you dont usually do your own work, But I bet the first time a clutch job needs to be done, some people might regret it. Others might not care about the extra work.
With the removable corssmember, I can remove or install the transmission by myself.
Admitedly, not cutting the x-member is better for retaining value.
Mine is bolted back in the car with four (4) 1/2" diameter machine bolts.

I originally cut mine for the T56 then realized I didn't have to and welded it back where it was. There is no way the trans is coming out the way it is now. I figure I will probably pull the engine and trans together if I ever need to service the trans.

Yeah, I cut mine out and bought a removeable (automatic) unit off of e-bay. Had to weld some brackets onto the frame to make it work. It was bugger of a job, but I'm really glad I did it. Richmond says you don't have to do it for the 5-speed, but it makes getting the tranny out a real snap.

Didn't cut the X member.
Did drop the body onto the chassis with the motor and box in place.
Everything has been good so far- If I have to remove the trans I will find out when it happens.

I installed a stock 95 T56 from a Z28 and I cut mine. I actually used an automatic frame (frame off) and still had to cut THAT crossmember to get the shifter low enough to work with console.
You will Never get the puppy out unless you pull the engine with it. I had it out and put back in in one evening but it was still a challenge. I did use the old 4 speed mounting bushing since it lined up the holes right up.
- Good Luck

Doug Nash (Richmond) 5 speed, no frame modifications. Installation and removal is achieved by removing the tail shaft housing. That gives enough clearance to move the tranny back for R & R.

Hi
So, the KEISLER 5 speed does not need any cutting ?
Not even the drive shaft ?
Straight bolt in replacement for the M21 ?
That's interesting and puts my aatention right there.
Just need to wait abit longer for the $ to drop even further against the EURO.
Thanks. Gunther

The Keisler 5 speed units bolt right in, but you need a new drive shaft (which is included in their Corvette kits).

Hi
Great, what's the trick with the shaft splines ?
What do I need for my 68 big block ?
Or are they all the same ?
