Default Looking for points and distributor cap

Hi All,
Anyone know where I can locate heavy duty GM points and dual window distributor cap OTHER THAN THE ACCEL STUFF AT ECKLERS?
I searched on the web but only found standard points and single window distributor cap.

Also looking for this item:

lars gave me part numbers for Echlin points and condensor that have worked great. (Sold at Napa). I was very unhappy with the cheap AC Delco distributor cap. It was black (the right color) but very lightweight. I liked the Summit heavy duty cap. MJ

Mark: Went to Napa yesterday and they had ONE set of the points (part #CS786P, Condenser #RR175) The cap they no longer make with Echelin as the maker. The guy said if I could get the Accel part number he could get me that cap, since Echelin is hooked up with Accel. Does Summit make a dual window cap and can you give me the part number? That would be great!!!

Dep,

Go back to NAPA and see if these numbers are still good....they still show on the website.

CS-7860 Heavy-duty Points
RR-1750 Heavy-duty Condenser
RR-1650 Heavy-duty Cap
RR-1670 Heavy-duty Rotor

If they don't have them in stock, they should be able to order them for you and have them by the next day (in most cases). I think you will like the quality....

Just for the record, I ran a NAPA parts store for years....back in the "good-ole-days".

Dep, Accel part number 8134 for the regular colored (tan) Accel dual window cap (fits standard GM distributor). 8135 for black. Both are cap/rotor combos. Yep, I have a catalog...
http://store.summitracing.com/defaul...&part=acc-8135

I know that Accel also sells 32oz ("hi perf") and 48 oz ("race") points, but I can't find the part numbers.

Martin: All the parts were there EXCEPT for the cap. They called up their headquarters and were told it was discontinued back in the 80's. Where was the website where you found this???

Joe: Thanks for the part numbers! Weird, I have the new Summit catalog and can't find those things listed anywhere!!!

Guru: Unfortunately the Mallory distributor doesn't allow you to adjust points with the cap on :(

Have to have GM points to be able to adjust with the cap on. Only Accel and Chevy made distributors like that. I have a vintage 1962 327/340 horse distributor on the way that has dual points. I need to get the stuff to equip it though. Ecklers wants a dang arm and leg (as in $50) for a cap and rotor.
So I was looking for suitable alternatives.

Nope...no joke. I will run a dual point distributor with an Accel Super coil and an MSD 6AL.

Have you ever had problems with an electronic ignition? Have you ever been stranded when a module conked out? Do you get a warning when an electronic ignition quits? Have you ever tried to FIX an electronic ignition?
Ever try to bump start a car with a low battery and electronic ignition?

Points are good to 8000+ RPM easy with the right set. They are simple and inexpensive to replace and set correctly. It's easy to carry spare parts.
An electronic ignition with less than about 9 volts can NOT be bump started.
When an electronic ignition quits it gives NO warning whatsoever.
Without complex electrical equipment it's impossible to analyze what the problem is. I'll make the concession of the MSD 6AL box because of the multiple spark and rev limiter. Beyond that....I'll stick with what I'm comfortable with and trust.

In a word "NO" I have been using a factory GM TI distributor with an MSD coil and MSD box forever, and have only recently switched to a MSD dual pickup distributor, dual boxes and dual coils. BUT hey if points floats your boat the same as a NON roller camshaft "go for it" and "I hope that works out for you"

PS: I bet "rocker shafts" are out of the question also??

I have had GM modules quit for absolutely no reason. Had a Ford brain box quit for no reason. Points give you a warning when they are going bad.
Rocker shafts? No way. Pedestal rockers for me. It was good enough for the L-88 and LS-7...I think I can live with them. To each his own, of course

The L88, ZL1, and LS7`s all got by without fancy rocker arms and roller camshafts. Hell, if you want to make a Chrysler out of it, get one. Shafts are stock on those engines. The only way to beat a Chrysler is with another Chrysler or one of the aluminum Chrysler clones. http://www.nitroalley.net/images/Puffer2.jpg http://www.nitroalley.net/images/Puffer3.jpg http;//www.nitroalley.net/images/borsch_willieInPuffer.jpg

I Think "IS" is a better word
