Default Fuel Injection, what are some good choices?

I have been looking into fuel injection for my 80 vette. I have been looking at Edelbrock and Holley Multi port systems. Does anyone here have any experience with either of these or another system. I am planning on usuing my current bottom end as it only has 5000 miles on it. I am going to add some Sportsman 2 heads to it then the fuel injection system. I am looking for recommendations and some cautions if any. Any help or advice would be very helpfull. Thanks again.

I think you can find some info in the archives. I have the holley cmdr950 system. Some other forum members have the edelbrock setup. Both camps seem happy with their respective setups. Some pros and cons:

C950: Pros

More detailed control than Edelbrock
Logging capabilities.
Closed loop is configurable and can be enabled at all rpms
No chips

C950 cons:
Need laptop to tune
Inexperienced users spend more time finding a good tune vs edelbrock

Edelbrock pros:
Easier to setup. Less settings=less chance of messing up.
No laptop

Edelbrock cons:
No logging
If engine mods are done a new chip has to be used.
No closed loop below 1800 rpm
Less settings=less control for the experienced user.

:iagree: Zwede is very knowledgable on this subject and has done a great job with his conversion.

Here's mine, it is a custom setup that will be controlled by the Holley Commander 950 Race Version ECU & Software :)

I am doing a TBI install of a Holley system. It's the 4Di system which is just the predecessor of the Commander 950.

I went with TBI as swapping out intakes is a :nono: when trying to get it to pass state emissions. So since I am stuck with having to run an EGR valve in the factory location, and that I want it to look stock under the hood, the TBI system was my best choice.

Nice ride, looks like mine.

I am going with a TPI unit, should arrive this weekend. Was Budman78's setup from Speed and Performance.

I'm running the Commander 950 on a small block with Sportman II heads and I'm very happy with it. Zwede summed it up pretty well. I would just add that the control you have with the 950 is incredible. If you get the distributor with it (or just a computer controlled HEI) you can control the spark and fuel maps. It is just plain awesome.

Some more things I just remembered:

C950 can handle boost (super/turbo charger), Edelbrock can't. With the race upgrade the C950 can use a wideband O2, Edelbrock can't.

C950 can control cooling fans. Don't know about edelbrock.

Edelbrock can do sequential fire (although I read some webpages that state it doesn't really work unless you use a hacked program). C950 only does batch fire.

If you are doing a really high powered engine that needs more than 50lbs injectors you're better off with a FAST system. With the C950 you need an auxillary injector driver box for the big low-impedence injectors. FAST has it built in which offsets the extra cost.

If you are intending for a daily driver, I would suggest a TPI unit. TPI makes great torque where you spend most of your time cursing around town. There are tons of TPI's out there, and plenty of parts and aftermarket equipment for them. With Holley or Edelbrock, you are locked into they system. I have an issue of Car Craft from the early 90's with fuel injection systems and I think of the 5 pages, only two companies are still in business. Edelbrock and Holley are good companies...but you never know.

How good are you at DIY? This is a fuel only unit that you build yourself, initial setup designed and tested on a 350 chevy. Its a lot of work but can be done for less than $500.

I am soooooooo jealous. i would love to FI my car. i see so many fools removing FI and installing carbs even on mid perf street cars. uuugghh i mean come on, isnt it 2003. y revert back to the pre 80's technology.

i will be keeping an eye on here for you in the future. let us all know what u decide and why made the choice you decide. when u do :hurray:

someday, i too will move on up into the 80s and go FI, until then, ill just keep hopin the choke works good on those cold missouri winter mornings.

With a wideband(4-wire sensor) O2 A/F gauge, how hard is it to tune?
