How are you guys with base engine cars doing 0-60?
I got my GW350 to do 7.1 seconds to 60. It's almost like a stock L-48. My only mods are duals, timing, and the performer intake.
I think I can knock a bit more off with a better launch. How are you guys w/ L-48s, ZQ3s and whatnot doing? (The cars with the .390/.410 cam)

I have a bone stock L-48 in an '80 Vette. My 0-60 times? Well...I am not sure, but I bet you could pack your lunch and eat it while attempting it. I am sure the numbers are very unimpressive to say the least..but hey, I will look cooler than most as I creep up to 60MPH.

Before I realized my mechanical timing was corroded stuck, I was pulling 10-11sec 0-60s. (Measured with a stopwatch by passenger). After that was remedied, lighter springs installed, 2" duals, and Performer intake, I was getting there in about 7 to 7.5sec (again measured by passenger). I have yet to test since my cam install, but the seat of my pants says it's alot better :D

I never timed it before any mods but I know I could have out run it. Everytime I took off from a light I would watch every car pull a way (They didn't even know they were in a race :lolg: )

I am never sure how to take the "I am with stupid" e-con. I will hope it is not a jab at my witty bubbly sense of humor! I may be slow but I wouldn't drive anything else. Wait a minute...you very well may "be with stupid" now that I think about it ;) Who else would make a 23 year old gass sucking Chevy their daily driver!? What the hell am I thinkin'? :D

I'm around 6.5 -7.0 but the carb has been rebuilt, EGR removed, heat riser removed and initial timing is set at 18 degrees and springs have been changed on the mechanical advance. With a good downhill run and a little wind, I can break 6.5!

Re: How are you guys with base engine cars doing 0-60? (page62)
Best so far is 6.3 seconds, measured with a Race Technology meter. Thats with an L48, performer intake and edelbrock carb, crane cam of 290 deg advertised duration, and i expect the quickshift kit in the auto box makes quite a bit of difference. Oh and the rear end is running 3.55.
So it's by no means a heavily modded setup, my guess is that it's about 1 to 1.5 seconds quicker than a stock 80, but i'm open to criticism on that one :)
A stock 80 L48 is around the mid to high sevens, isn't it?

Hey Theo,
I haven't seen you on the forum lately, good to see you are back. I take it you got the heads back on the Vette. Seems like I remember you had some issues with heads? Correct me if I am wrong. Anyway, good to see you back.

Hey,
Yep, I've been on holiday - took two weeks off to go back to my home county. Spent most of the time driving the vette around the coast roads and generally showing off with my mates! I've clocked up nearly 1500 miles in two weeks. I don't really want to know, but i reckon thats pushing £250 to £300 of petrol - so 4-500 bucks
I am now officially poor until next payday! Had a fantastic time though, shame about having to do work again though...
It wasn't my heads that were giving me trouble, by the way, I had a nasty front main seal leak. Along with drips from all over the underneath. It was spinning off the balancer and blowing back onto the headers, giving smoke out of the "gills". So i did a bottom end gasket job before going on my holiday. I spent most of the time cleaning old oil and poopiee off the bottom of the engine/chassis - if only i had a proper lift and not just axle stands! Got it all put back together the day before i had planned to leave - after a 36 hour, yes, thats right, 36 hour marathon of cleaning, scraping (some swine had glued the last sump gasket onto the block - took me a couple of hours on my back to get that alone cleaned up) I was pretty spun out after 36 hours working on my car, with only coffee and ciggie breaks! You start to go on auto pilot after the first 18 or so - I wouldn't recommend it really, I was forced into it by the fact that the parts took ages to come, and I was left with only the weekend to get it all done. While i was wating for the parts, i was busy making up tools for the job, made up a harmonic balancer puller and another gadget for re-installing it....
Still, all fairly oil-tight now, after those 1500 miles. Front crank seal is dry, even though i had to machine down the wear ridge on the balancer, and decided to risk putting it back without a repair sleeve to bring the diameter back up.
Intake manifold bolts are leaking oil past the threads now though........... :mad
That engine will very soon have a completely new set of gaskets, whether i like it or not.
How's yours behaving?

I managed 7.1 in my 82 with stock exhaust (but hiflow cat and borlas) and base timing and port matched crossfire injection. Done on a upper 90's humid day. Will try again next time some cool weather hits Houston - like December!
Not bad after all for the Crossfire - on a LM1 GW350.

What's really funny? People that ride with me thinks it's really fast!  Truth be told, our Accord would give the Vette a run for the money.

Re: How are you guys with base engine cars doing 0-60? (Pacin'California)
The previous owner did 8.6 sec 0-60 with a G-Tech. That was with a bog at the end of 1st gear (auto). It turned out to be a clogged fuel filter. I think that with a really stock 1980 L-48 (adjusted to spec like timing) it should be around 7.5 to 8.0 sec. But it depends on the year model and rear gear ratio too.

My Bone Stock Yellow 1980, 4-sp will 0-60 in 7.2 Seconds using a passenger with a stop watch. But like alot of the guys here I love looking at these C3 Vetts, The Yellow looks awsome from any angle.
