Corvette is drawing 7.6 Amps with the key off.
:confused: I got back from a trip on Friday evening, go to start the Corvette and the battery is dead. So i switch it with my other car, and this weird chattering/clicking noise coming from the starter when i crank. Also battery cables got hot. So I grab my meter, and I measured like 7 Amps. I eventually ended up removing all the fuses one at a time until i found the curcuit, but i have about 3 circuits that draw. I also ended up switching my starter with a different one becuase I removed the wiring harness from the starter to the fusebox, and jumping the +12V to the Solenoid wire resulted in the same chattering... I had it running with about 4 fuses in and then i put all the fuses back in that weren't drawing current... and now its doing the chattering starter noise again. I jsut left it at that last night. I'm afraid I'll be doing the dreaded "under the dash wiring" tonight.... also, no brake lights (fuse is in). :confused:

What circuits are drawing current, I mean actual components. 7 Amperes, to me sounds like an Amplifier.

I'll have to look at my haynes i forget right now. I was tracking the circuit and I think it may have somehting to do with the factory alarm.

Oh, my factory alarm was disconnected when I got the car. Perhaps there is something wrong with that circuit, which is why the previous owner removed it in my car?

Clicking/chattering from the starter is due to low battery. The clicking is the solenoid pulling, but when it makes contact to engage the starter motor, voltage drops so much the solenoid disengages. As soon as it disengages, the voltage goes back up and the cycle repeates. Click-Click-Click...
With the car off, doors closed (no dome light) I expect to see no more than 100-150 mA (thats milli amps) draw.

well I'm drawing 700mA with some of the fuses out, I know thats way too much and probably explains the dead battery when i leave the car for a week. But something must be shorting, The fuse that activates the headlight buzzer is the one that is drawing 7 amps.

ohhhhhh, wait a minute. The headlight buzzer, that could be, or probably is, a bad relay. Now, I know where the turn signal relay is, but I have no idea where the headlight relay resides. I think its actualy by the fuse panel, but I'm guessing.

glutamine, I thought i had it fixed, it was running, signal lights worked, (not 4ways) headlights worked, (not guage lights) thats all i really needed to go for a litle rip. And then I checked brake lights and no brake lights, I checked the "Stop/Hazard" fuse and it was installed and Good. so I started putting in all the fuses that didn't make the battery draw. After i went through them all, there were 3 bad circuits and still no brake lights and then i tried to start it and the same clicking noise. I have half a mind to rewire it so my inner taillights are brakes, outer tailings are signals and run it back to the brake switch and forget this wire bull.

dwayne 76, i will find it pretty quick tonight, espcially with that infernal buzzing sound eminating from it. It will be my pleasure to rip that baby outta there. Thanks for the suggestion.

Or, you can order a tail light conversioon kit from Mid-America. Works great, both lights on each side act as the trun signal, and I find they are brighter then stock, IMO.

hey bloodvette, let's get together and rewire that sucker (i'll bring some wire strippers, and some butt connectors, as well as my haynes manual) , it will be a bitch, but I'll bring a 66oz of Jim Beam and a couple packs of smokes, and we should have no trouble getting her wired.......

10-4 I'll pick up the pepsi & chips on the way home. I still have about 7 beers from last night so they can be an evening introduction before shifting over to diesel. I have my haynes manual but it's so covered with greasey finger prints that you should really bring yours. First I'm gonna look into that alarm relay and buzzer system. Whatever it takes, that corvette will be on the road tonight, (and on the back of a tow truck burned to a cinder doesn't count). If you have a fire extinguisher bring it. :lol:
