Default questions about 71 454

I picked up a basket case 71 coupe some time ago and have slowly been getting it back together. Never having done this before, it's been quite a challenge. My major problem now is figuring out what to do with the engine. One of the previous owners had it bored out 30 thousands and put 11 to 1
high dome pistons in it. It has a torker 11 manifold and a holly 750cfm
double pumper. Whoever did the machine work or assembly didn't get it quite right and the pistons were just barely kissing the heads. Now for the
questions:
1: in 71 when they detuned the engine and brought it down to 8.5 to1 compression how was this accomplished?
2: Did the 70 run the high dome piston.
3: are the 70 and 71 heads the same.
4: is there a better intake and and carb out there that will fit under the hood
( I understand thru reading this forum that this isn't really a great setup for this particular engine).
I would like to rebuild this engine as just a mild performer that I can run
with pump gas. All suggestions and question answears will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Different dome configurations and different CC volumes.
2: Did the 70 run the high dome piston.
It is different but not sure how much "higher".
3: are the 70 and 71 heads the same.
The 70 LS5 heads are unique to that year, 101cc volume. The 71-72 LS5 cylinder heads are essentially the same even though they have different casting numbers, 113cc volume.
4: is there a better intake and and carb out there that will fit under the hood
Cannot help with 4.

Torker II is your only choice for oval port intake that fits under the stock hood. I tried to make my LS5 run right for a long time with that POS manifold. Finally gave up and got a high-rise EFI setup and a L88 hood and it's all smiles now.
