FYI - Patriot sidepipes don't work (IMHO)
I couldn't get anyone's feedback on the patriot sidepipes that showed up in the summitt and jegs catalogs recently for <$200. So I bought a set anyway.
I wouldn't recommend them. Its a great price, and they would work on a more generic application, but not on a vette. The inlet is only 2" which makes it hard to find u and j bends to fit, its comes under the frame at a bad angle that will make it a jerry-rigged hook up.
Also, the design is that the heat shields mount (screws) onto ears on the clamps. This means that the clamp nuts are against the frame and that doesn't give you anywhere to hang the pipes. In short, they won't bolt easily to the original mounting holes, so to me its not worth it.
Sent them back to summitt. Anyway, that's my .02

keith72...
I will add to your conversation that Hedman Hedder's Pt#68280 is NOT direct replacement for those of you who wish to trash the stock exhaust manifolds to your sidepipes. Pretty close without no modifications, but no cigar. They may work on some of the C-3 years, but interference comes in on my '74 with the steering linkage on the passenger side. To this date Hooker is really the only alternative and that means trashing the whole stock system. Someone needs to get into this market(headers for stock sidepipes on C-3 vettes that is).
I will finish :smash: them tomorrow.

Here's a picture that someone posted a week or so ago, of how they hooked their headers to stock sidepipes. Patriots ought to mount up pretty much the same way. The u-turn looks sort of goofy but it seems to work.

There's clearance to do the u & j bends, if you can find collectors, etc that will take you down to the 2" on the patriot pipes' inlet.
A bigger problem is getting them to mount on the frame. They are designed to hang underneath, not mount to the side. The way the heat shields mount to the pipe clamps puts the clamp ends/nuts against the frame.
Anyway, I tried to go cheaper, looks like I'll be coughing up the >$800 to get real sidepipes. I figure I'll scrimp on something else. I didn't really need a radio and a/c anyway.....

Thx for the FYI- I was about to get the patriots' side-pipes . I was hoping for them to mount more beside the frame, than below it. Would the dynomax side-pipes be the same way ? :mad

I think the only ones that will be sat are the hookers or the original style from the vette houses. I believe those are the only type to have the tabs that allow mounting/hanging from the original frame holes.
Maybe someone with more experience will weigh in....

From what I have read/seen-
"A 1 1/2-inch, 90-degree elbow, for example, is the equivalent of 7.5 feet of straight 1 1/2-inch pipe.
A 2-inch, 90-degree elbow equals 8.6 feet of straight 2-inch pipe.
And a 3-inch, 90-degree elbow equals 11.1 feet of straight 3-inch pipe."
If that's 2"...we are looking at the same restriction as over 25' of pipe...
