Has anybody ever purchased an engine from ar racing? What do you guys think about buying an engine from ebay? Like this one http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2421853992 It seems for the price like it cant be beat but are the engines worth anything?

There are two warnings I would put with this:
Remember, It's E-Bay. Scams have been known to happen, and even problems like returns or bad shipping are worse since you are working with someone over the internet.
Second - and this pertains to all engines with BIG HP / Trq numbers. Look at the cam spec and the dyno sheet. 450 HP is cool, but it sucks rocks if it doesn't come in until 6000 RPM. That big cam may be what you THINK you want, but when it won't idle, over heats, stalls and gets 5 MPG your still stuck with that touchy twitchy non-streetable motor.
Know what your getting. There is a big difference in a motor with 400 Trq that comes in before 4000 and one that doesn't until 5100. High HP number high up in the RPM's won't do you any good on the street and most likely will have crappy launches and horrible street driveability.
I believe a few guys have bought them and are very happy with the results. Talk to Olivier, GrandsportC3 about his stroker.
:yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod:
I bought my 383/465 HP engine from them... The car ran 12.06 @ 116 mph on a slow track (bad 60' time).. With my latest mods - I should be in the 11.80's next time on the track.. I also put already 8k street miles and over 40 drag strip passes on the engine and it still runs like new..
I only paid $2995 for the engine and it was the best investment ever!!!
I am another one of their happy customers. See my sig. I've just gotten it completed (well, I'm giong to get the exhaust finished tomorrow) and it is great so far. I believe I got the same one as Ryan but with the dual plane intake. Should be in the upper 400's on HP and TQ. Yes there are many scams on eBay but is not one of them. The owner, Mark, is a very nice guy and will work with you and is always there to answer questions. I even got an upgraded motor and free shipping because they are so busy right now and it was taking longer than expected.
This thing idles nice, although very lumpy with the open exhaust, is smooth and steady at 195deg with my original radiator and a flex fan, oil pressure is good, and looks killer! I can't wait to finish the break-in so I can really get on it.
There have been a bunch of other threads on AR's motors, just do a search on AR in the C3 general section.
What happened to AR's website? As far as I remember it was something like auto-restoration.com(or something like that). My brother is wanting to dump the 305 he has in his Blazer and go to a 350 with 350-375HP and I know I saw such things on their site. You don't find them on E-bay. I could contact Mark, but right now I'm just doing some footwork for my brother.

I also bought one from AR, a 440hp 383 stroker, Mark is great to deal with. I got it started last week and today I couldn't help taking it down the road a little bit (I'm still not finished putting the car back together) and all I can say is HOLY SHEET!!! I didn't even time it yet and this thing almost got away from me! I didn't even try to do a burn out or chirp them going into second, I COULDN't help it! I can't wait to get everything back together and drive it. Mark personally sticks by his engines and always answers emails you send him the same day, sometimes with in an hour. Thanks Oliver for spreading the word!!
Re: A. R. Racing ENGINES ON EBAY????? (Corvettelvr73)
I am another AR racing motor fan. I have a 425 hp engine with aluminum edelbrock heads. ($2800). My experience with Mark Lim was same as above mentioned. He was easy to deal with and always returns calls and email ...even 6 months after your purchase. I think he will build whatever you want ...the XE comp cam "special grind" he uses is similar tothe 286 (I think thats the one) and has good torque at lower RPM. Do plan on replacing your stock stall converter ...perhaps with one a little higher than Mark recommends. I did mine after the engine and decided to drop in a built TH350 to handle the extra power (compared to stock 230hp).
