So I"m going up the road today to help a buddy redo his '64, and so I"m thinking of a realtively pleasant few hours putting crap back on the car, now that it's painted up and looking nice under the hood....
Well, no go...wifey poo calls, and well NO guy is so cold hearted to say NO to my wife....not on THIS planet anyway....
so this 'relative' has this Talon we help her buy and I put in a junkyard engine, new 1/2 shafts, bearings, brakes, etc....finally get the silly thing on the road, decent CHEAP car....runs fine...
so we notice somehow in the driveway here 2 FREAKING WEEKS AGO!!!! the front tire has a piece of schrapnel in it....ugly looking, I check pressure and told her to buy 2 NEW tires for the front of this thing NOW!!!!
Well the tire came off the rim in the driveway....SO GENE gets to toss the floor jack in the vette along with other tools for the '64 I was supposed to work on...stop off to put the spare on her car....guess what??? the damn spare DOES NOT FIT THE FREAKING CAR!!!!! lovely, you just gotta be KIDDING!!!!....BS never stops!!!! bought the damn thing used needing an engine for christsakes, but really now....I looked and checked the spare, but NEVER actually mounted the POS to see if the freaking BOLT PATTERN was correct.....
SO, two tires and a bunch of towels in the vette, I am getting two new tires mounted and balanced fro the of that POS.....
so to go NOW at 1230 lunch time, pick up the tires, and remount on the car, and then come back home, disgusted, pissed, tired, and hurting...and NO pleasure of bolting a decent '64 VETTE back together.....

Isn't that the truth, you help someone and suddenly everything that goes wrong with it is now your problem.
I used to help people get into cheap computers that took a lot of time and and gained me nothing. Everytime they can't print or get a virus they call me. However they never wanted to help me with anything. Now I tell them that Dell sells nice computers.
Re: MY Vette, stepdaughters, and cars...GRRRRR! (mrvette)
:seeya Hey buddy, I know how it feels... I work a full time job to pay all my reg. living expenses. Wife says if I want play money for my Vettes get a part time job... I get a part time job and have extra money but, now I have no time! If I do manage to get some time off she wants me to work on something else around the house. :mad I have brand new parts laying around in the garage that I have bought and paid for and have not had time to install. Than if she doesn't feel like cooking she'll say "Lets' go out to eat" than expect me to pay for it. She's still trying to figure a way to get my extra money from my part time job. :boxing Than if her SUV needs to be repaired I'm expected to pay for that out of my part time job income. :nonod: "Good Luck" but I have my own problems! Joe. :jester

Re: MY Vette, stepdaughters, and cars...GRRRRR! (mrvette)
I hate that. I used to try to help people out all the time with car problems and it kept backfiring, backfiring...soon my house looked like a gas line in the 70's, wrapped all the way around the block.
Now, I am very careful about what I tell people, especially my wife, she used to have me 'looking' at all of her single female co-workers cars. THAT came to an end very quickly.
Re: MY Vette, stepdaughters, and cars...GRRRRR! (mrvette)
My wife is the same way. All she can do is put gas in it. Can't even tell if it's making a different noise. We'll get in it to go somewhere, with me driving of course, and I'll ask her when her SUV started making the new noise. She'll give me a blank look and say, what noise?
How can someone be so flippant about their DAILY method of transportation??
Re: MY Vette, stepdaughters, and cars...GRRRRR! (topless68)
Well, i'ts not that I"m not USED to it or anything, goes back a LONG way, starting with a buddy who got backed into helping his mom's lady friends with their cars...typically enough they kept getting ripped off, and soon enough hot rodder Larry, Bob, and I got a rep for helping damsels in distress...
some of the shoddy work we saw was allmost reckless if not outright dangerous....situation was outta controll in the late 60's and certainly not much better today....
at any rate, Larry and Bob opened up a shop, part time for Larry and full time for Bob, who had a music degree so he made a living tuning engines...
old family joke....
so anyway, they split off when Larry's stall was needed and the work load became too great, not a friendly split, too bad....
so anyway Larry and I continued doing this 'thing' of ours....to this day
40 near years later, Larry maintains my kid's cars and my ex's too....
see that things were done right under warrenty anyway....for the ex....
and so the tradition followes me south...sort of a hobby....in a way....
neighbors, friends, relatives, you name it......if it's got 4 rubber wheels, anything from a lawnmower to a truck....I can sooth it's hard miles, put a smile on it's face, and makeup on the headlights....
I just not so productive at it these days to make any money doing it though...
freaking hurts too much....
wonder if I could manage one every other day though...thing is, when I"m hurting, I cant work....and that's not good customer relations...
Re: MY Vette, stepdaughters, and cars...GRRRRR! (mrvette)
You just gotta make sure they understand that things aren't free. My uncle built me a computer, actually the one i'm on right now, but i paid for all the parts. Whenever he needs help painting/yard work/house work I come over when I can to help.
Re: MY Vette, stepdaughters, and cars...GRRRRR! (Buffalo Dude)
I agree, buy a DELL.
I see you point, I get asked to help on friends cars as well, even with my limited knowledge on cars. But I have a rule, scratch = scratch. If I work on your car then you better help me when I need you for something. Somehow the got all the 'user' people away from me and now the only people who ask me to help are also there when I need help. Isn't that how we all get along.

Of my four kids, the most mechanically inclined was my oldest daughter. (I still remember her changing the rear brakes on our Beauville van going from one side to the other to get the springs and shoes correct).
The oldest boy forgot to torque the spark plugs in his Metro. (He came home from East Lansing with one of the three plugs hanging by the spark plug wire!).
The youngest boy could be a good wrench but he is really more intellectually inclined. (He was the most fun to work with on the Vette).
The youngest daughter just sees a car as a means to get from A to B.
