i went to the track sunday as some of you know, and i broke my u-joint and my hub flange. when replacing my broken parts i just the other side and noticed my half shaft on the other side has two flat spots in it. i belive this is a sign of them starting to twist. so i want to go back to the track soon, but i dont want it to brake again, so where can i get some racing halfshafts????? :steering:
Re: where do i get some new half shafts (gravismaximus)
I drag race my 1980 and also have twisted half shafts in two. I had heavy duty ones built by Broward Power Train in Fort Lauderdale and haven't broken a shaft in 2 years now. You must have a place around that does that. I paid $130 (plus tax) for 2 of them, plus 4 spicer u-joints ($86 and $20 install). A good deal.
Except for the link direct to the halfshaft list above, the VanSteel web site does not work for me... from this PC... PowerMac G3 running OS9 and IE. Their products look to be pure stock... which are not heavy duty.
The Dennys stuff.... wow. Nice work. But, oh my... I would have to take out a second mortgage. $$$
I guess if you're doing the race thing.... they are worth the money. $750 + cost of flanges plus S&H.... probably close to a grand for two half shafts.
Tom, the Nitrous ready shafts from Denny's are only 400 bucks. Not cheap, but not too terrible when you consider they have an unbreakable guarantee. I think a broken halfshaft in the past may be why I had to repair a huge crack/hole in the back of my battery box. What a pain in the butt! :smash:
