Default Help w/ engine identification

Good morning everyone!! I have a question regarding my engine. I have searched high and low, and cannot seem to find any reference for the engine i.d. on the front of my block. I know it is a 350 (GM casting # 14016379), but the number on the front is: VK 202800. I think it may be a replacement or crate engine, but any feedback would be greatly appreciated. This is NOM in my 1974.

Thanks

I have checked the "Cherolet by the Numbers" book, and it is not listed. The block dosen't have any suffix code...

Thanks

14016379 is '78-'79 passenger car and light truck 350.

I do not have the proper book in front of me to decipher the VK...

The casting #, 14016379, is for a 77-79 350. Assume that the VK 202800 is on the stamp pad (machined surface on the block in front of the passanger side head). Should be two sets of numbers stamped there. Second set would be something like V0217CLK. With that second set of #'s should be able to identify the engine.

VK 202800 is the only number stamped on the front pad... No VIN, or any other number for that matter. I'm perplexed... From the posts that I've read the engine is fron 77' - 79', but the date stamp on the block is: J 13 2. Which means the engine was manufactured in 72', 82', 92'... Seems the more research I do, the more confusing it gets.

Could be that the VK 202800 is just a stamp that the engine rebuilder used to id the engines.

I hadn't thought of that Tom, good call. A machine shop could have wiped out the original!!
