I did everything but the machine work on the block and the paint on the car. I did not have the facilities to do these. I did a frame off from 92-94 and have since done many other "projects" to the car. I can't tell the dollar figure that I have into it but it would have cost twice as much if someone else were doing the work. It's a hobby. Some guys play golf I enjoy taking things apart and making them better.

I've done all of a 'frame on' except the alignment, and I'll have to pay someone to lay on the paint after I prime it. Cost is somewhere around 10K including the purchase price and not counting my labor, which would make it a rediculously expensive job! I know every bolt on it...

Look at this job Steve Adkins did on his car. He did an excellent job on his car. I have seen it and it is something to see. It is amazing what one person can do in their garage and have it turn out so nice. Keep that in mind when you are looking at the pics.

I have done all of my own work, from rebuilding Trailing Arms to installing my own engine and so much more. I plan on doing all the work that I am physically capable of doing. With the onset of age and disease has slowed me considerably, but I keep struggling on.
I would not trust any mechanic I know of to work on my car. Rebuild parts, like setup rear wheel bearings and machine work, yes, I'll pay someone to do, but the assembly and installation will be done by me. That way, I can be assured that it was put together right, and if something fails I have only myself to blame.

At the end of June it will be 4 years since I brought the 73 home on a trailer with 2 more pickup loads of parts. This car was totally disassembled and I now have got it 80% done. I did everything except the block machining myself. One day I was a bodyman/painter and then I would be an engine builder. ( I sure hope this thing wll drive down the road someday) . It is definitely a labor of love and not a profitable venture. Craig

I did all of mine myself. Total cost, including car, $7000. It took about a year. The key to keeping it low cost is planning and then buying almost new for anything that you won't be able to tell the difference on after you drive it. It was, and is, lots of fun.

having a third party do the resto was in the 18k vicinity and took 2 years.
I'm glad it worked out. How about giving us an idea of the scope of work - what exactly got done for the 18k? I'm sure it was more than paint and body work, right?
the easiest way i can put it, is if a part needed changing, it got changed. if a part needed fixing it got fixed, if a part needed cleaning it got cleaned, paint, body, everything.

my vette is a brand new car. short of being 33 years old. :D

I did my own also, I didn't do body paint or machine work. I wouldn't want to know how much I spent  . With cost of the vette(it came in boxes and was almost completetly stripped), paint and major mechanical easily 20k plus. And what do I do for an encore, I just bult a 383 and I'm in process of installing it :D

I did mine in a two car garage. Did everything except machine work and short block assembly, tranny rebuild, paint and some bodywork, wheel alignment, and I had the leather seat covers professionally installed. I did buy some assemblies already rebuilt, like T-arms. I did paint the frame and suspension components myself, and everything else under the hood. I left no bolt unturned, except the body mounts, I did a body-on-frame restoration. I also made a ton of modifications to drasticly increase the performance and handling of the car.
I think I have about $25K in it including purchase price, but I haven't added up receipts in awhile.
Did it all purely for the fun and satisfaction (cause not all of it was fun all the time) and not for any $$$ profit. I don't plan to sell the car.

I did a body off resto on mine. everything from the engine machining to the paint. It took me about 3 years mostly because of lack of money. The overall cost of it was somwhere from 12 to 15 thousand not including the original expense of buying the car. I cant wait for my next project!
