Default 1979 Corvette Owners

Now that the registry has drawn new owners in...I'm curious if any CF subscribers with 79 models have the two door rear compartment characteristic of the 1980 model year.

I think mine was an early '79- it also has the 3 door compartment.

What is your VIN and how about anyone else with late 3 door...VIN? Sounds like a vette hatchback!

The late 79 production corvettes had 2 door rear compartment just like all 80-82.

I have the three door also. My vin is 46000ish. So it is a later car. Also another way to check for an earlier or later model is the turn signal lever. The eary cars had just a straight lever and the late model had the bent turn signal lever. :D

What part of the VIN number will tell you? I'd be glad to post part of it, and any pictures.

Regarding the VIN, I trust most CF members, but you never know who else out there is lurking. So, I'm a little hesitant to post the whole number. But I'll help anyway I can

Looks like I win the prize for the non-standard vette.

I have the 85mph speedo - late model
I have the bent turn single lever - late model
I have the 3 door compartment - early model

So what do I win :D

The last five digits is sufficient...and thanks.

Fact of the matter is late vs early has never been defined but only estimated...that's why there exists models such as your which is a hybrid.

The only accurate method to define late vs early is to conduct a survey of vehicles by VIN and by running change. If enough participate on the forum here...here we can get a pretty good approximate...redefining early and later for any indiviual running change.

Your VIN contributes by showing the folly of defining late and early...this personal satisfaction is today's prize. Congratulations!

Ok, I'm assuming the last 5 digits are the production number. Mine is number 51,649

Mine also had the 85mph speedo, but I've since changed to a 140. The turn signal lever itself is straight, but comes out of the column at an angle.

Hope this helps!

My last 5 digits are 41636 and like I said, I have the 3 door compartment. My speedo goes to 140mph, but my turn signal/cruise lever is bent. :chevy

2door, straight turn lever and 85mph. I think of calling Red Line at work
or after 5pm for a new speedo. I think it's an age thing about remembering
when I get home from work to call John, mine. Steve
